lastpopicon 37,247
dont we want women’s freedom of artistic expression? I'm so confused sometimes. We can't dictate what a pop star can and can't do just because it might affect others negatively, where is all this outrage when rappers sing about their d and banging a lot of women, and treating them like sh*t? You know, the sound boys actually listen to. We still haven't even heard the album, y'all need to chill with the pearl clutching ngl. Future Lovers 7,170
People not getting what she's doing with this photoshoot shouldn't surprise me, and yet I'm still gagged how just how widespread media illiteracy has become
Celloo Deng 55,548
I mean, as a woman I don’t like it. And I don’t find it feminist at all. But then it’s just an album cover by some pop star I don’t listen to so she/her 🖤 Gaga, Billie, MJ
River 120,538
These people will take the time to make a video about a “degrading” album cover, but won’t stay 1 second to volunteer at a women shelter. This is how this generation works, they do alll this for the likes and the shares, not for actual reason they “fight” for. So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy 1
Gerrard174 697
Not a fan of the cover. Mainly because of the hair pulling and the second picture - dog. It does give an image of deragatory than "being submissive for love" (if this is what she is going for) Also, im sincerely worried about her. Sex sells. But it only sells for a period of time. Hope that she has a good transition down the road, otherwise she will become KP 2.0.. which is a shame because i kinda enjoy her fun (yet sexy) songs for SNS 2

Shadow 6,640
Isn't Sabrina's target audience young women? It appears most women find this imagery offensive or demeaning. Stand in the light, cast your shadow. 1

onionring 547
It's kinda giving the Robin Thicke mv where he and Pharrell were surrounded by models as different degrading symbols but from the ✨female gaze✨. Honestly I think the cover doesn't look interesting enough as a feminist statement nor a kink expression, it just looks gimmicky and not in a fun deliberate way. It looks like they ran out of time and had to submit something to the label, which I'm sure was not the case as she and her team are very smart and intuitive about projects/performances so in the end this is just reads as such a weak effort. As for the feminism of it all I personally think that the patriarchy is a mighty beast to lay the burden of ending on her solely, like this not setting any examples guys c'mon incels and conservatives ALREADY point out to her, Lil Nas, Gaga and pretty much any and every pop girl comfortable enough in her sexuality and say they're the decay of the west it's just not about that. I personally could argue that the fact they chose this album title with this cover art reads as beating you on the head with a message that should be empowering, fun, and clever and ends up being none of it. They should've went with either of imho, or just like maybe a better cover art For me this whole thing leaves a bad Taste.mp3, but not for the current discourse.

I’m not saying that the image isn’t provocative, but to claim that engaging with dom/sub gender-based dynamics in pop imagery is intrinsically misogynistic is definitely a huge stretch. But, again, the Discourse™️ is what Sabrina wanted and Discourse™️ she shall get! THIS. Feels like we're going backwards now if people can't willingly engage in BDSM dyanmics. I understand imagery like this can be interpreted in a million different ways and can cause issues on that basis. But policing sexuality is patriarchy in action.
