Nagini 1,933
Nope, it's still weird af. It's obviously meant to spark conversation but I do not like her vibe.

In many of the posts in the OP, there’s no genuine interest in nuance or intention and an outsized emphasis on outrage. Disliking it is one thing, but I think there’s a lot of uncritical condemnation going on, which feels like another. I agree. I mean, maybe because I’m a casual listener I know 100% that there is no ill intention behind Sabrina in doing this cover, and that once the album drops the storytelling will justify everything. I do think the cover was a bold choice with cuestionable marketing practice attached to it, but not to a point where she’s “resetting feminism 20 years back” like some takes have exaggeratedly expressed. It just irks me I guess seeing stans blindly defending it on both sides? Like yes, obviously there will be a more profound meaning on the album, and yes, there is somewhat of a critique that can be done on the cover regarding feminism.

It’s a never being fight indeed.

AliceAnesthesia 126
I'm so surprised at the drastic negative reaction to this cover lol. I expected some negative reactions but wow people are bothered. ngl I don't like this cover. But it's because I think it's a bit boring and, in my opinion, seems like it's just meant to stir up a little controversy. Which if that was the goal hats off lol. Because i really don't think it's THAT explicit or provocative all things considered. Idk how to phrase it but it feels performative, like it's just for the sake of controversy and she only went just provocative enough to get people talking and not a step further. But that's just my first impression, perhaps there is more meaning to it that will be apparent with the full context of the album. ....but until then. all this debate and criticism over this boring pic is sending me 👹 Dance or die.

I’m not saying that the image isn’t provocative, but to claim that engaging with dom/sub gender-based dynamics in pop imagery is intrinsically misogynistic is definitely a huge stretch. But, again, the Discourse™️ is what Sabrina wanted and Discourse™️ she shall get! Tbh. Her expression doesnt look like someone being abused, it looks like some kind of play Context matters and clearly thats not what Carpenter is going for.
