Their approval is elusive and the concerts can get banned last minute even after approval. Just that one of the most fatal things that could get Gaga banned behind the curtain was the public meeting with Dalai Lama. Coldplay did apparently have some political statements against Chinese government, yet they still got to hold 4 concerts in HK this April. The local news in HK said that Gaga's team originally approached HK for the Mayhem promo shows first, but the local officials wasn't cooperative enough and left their team hanging.
