Thanks to professionals and authorities concern, the problem was under surveillance and evacuation of all living beings has been done for days. "We've lost our village," Matthias Bellwald, the mayor of Blatten told a press conference after the slide. "The village is under rubble. We will rebuild." Millions of cubic meters of rock and soil have tumbled down and the destabilized mountain is about to collapse even more. 1714, same county, neighboring valley, the mountain collapsed and killed people and livestock. Less than 40 years later, another part of the mountain collapsed at the same spot. It was during the second landslide that the lake of Derborence was formed and became the youngest natural lake in Europe.
