As someone with a different mental disorder, it’s very hard to not let that rule my life sometimes. Could it be important to look into why rates have gone up? Sure, yeah. But just thinking of the friends I have, and how so many of them are absolutely thriving every single day despite something some people would see as a hindrance, I don’t think answers would matter to them. Obviously I can’t speak for everyone. But something like this, a quote like this, dehumanizes people with autism and treats them like something that needs to be investigated and cured instead of the beautiful people that they are. After years and years an autism screening was suggested for me and I tested on the spectrum. It's always been around but one I think can innately pick up on all the social stuff with enough practice even though it doesn't come naturally. Hence a developmental disorder kind of thing.
