i love lovedrug, vanish into you, abra, perfect celebrity, shadow of a man, garden of eden

blade of grass is IMO her worst ballad ever

HBDYWM has a catchy chorus but i really hate how basic white girl it sounds...... like its almost cringey sounds like a high school girl singing a love song.

the beast has a great chorus but those verses are so meh.

no matter what ppl say about DWAS, its literally lady gagas biggest hit, peaked at number one for several weeks and it might end up spending an entire year in the top 10 of the hot 100, gagas never been close to that feat. it has 2.4 billion streams and is the fastest song to reach 2 billion in history.

im just so happy gagas getting the recognition she deserves, i wish we got abra in the top 10 but honestly its become such a fan fave, it doesnt matter.

i still feel like gaga will release her most mature body of work after she has a kid.

It's been 2 months guys stop putting expiry dates on her songs. :icant:

The way I was underwhelmed by GOE's debut and then a week later I was like: "SO HIT THE LIGHTS 🐝🐝🐝🐝:huntyga:

I realized within those 2 months since Mayhem was released:

1. Dont Call Tonight is about her dad.

2. Killah curtains are about her V.

3. How Bad Do U Want Me is a bop.

4. DJs arent in charge of lights.

The album is still great, possibly even better with time.
Still think VIY is the crown jewel of the album and needs to be released as a summer single right about..now.

Shadow of a Man second fave.

HBDYWM was biggest grower because I didn’t like it at first.

But there isn’t a bad song on the thing imho.

i think it actually says a lot that people seem to have wildly differing faves and least faves and people’s opinions going back and forth over time. It just means there’s something for everyone and every mood, which is great.

I'm not sure how it'd work on an iPad. I assume it'd be the same?? Just download some mp3 files of the songs and create a playlist using them + the songs on MAYHEM. I followed this tutorial.

One of my favourite albums of all time, from any artist. Seeing all of the incredibly live performances has only heightened the listening experience for me because I just feel like screaming "MY GIRL DID THAT!!!!!! :messga:" after every song lmao

My only skip is Blade of Grass because it makes me cry :enigma:

I still rank it the same among her albums (BTW/ARTPOP/Joanne are top 3, The Fame and Chromatica are at the bottom, and TFM and MAYHEM are somewhere in the middle, I'd rank them the same).

My opinion on it hasn't really changed - my biggest issue is that there isn't any song that stands out, especially compared to the rest of her discography. On my first listen, none of the songs had a "wow" effect on me, and if it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have re-listened. The songs have grown on me since then, but not to the point that they are up there along with my all-time favorites. My other issue is that, next to this, there are 2-3 songs I really don't like and that are approaching the bottom of my Gaga discography list, almost next to Christmas Tree.

I've had quite the journey with this album. Upon first listen I was kind of disappointed tbh because the singles, visuals, snippets, teasing for nearly a year, her interviews, her fashion, everything had us set up to be an album full of Diseases (lol) and Abras. Maybe we'll get our full industrialGa album someday...

Once I got over that, I was listening to the album nonstop for about a week, then I decided to give it a rest.

The first half of the album is near perfect. Disease, Abra, GOE, PC, Killah, Zombieboy were the key players for me. Vanish is great, but I'm a darkpop girlie and always will be, so those other songs just stand out more for me.

After Zombieboy is when the album takes a downturn imo. I specifically remember on my first listen being so bored after ZB because the tracks just felt very samey. We went from disco and funk to like...80's rock ballad. Over time, LoveDrug REALLY grew on me a lot actually. It still isn't top 5 though but I really love it. Don't Call Tonight is a SKIP and I really don't know why she included it on the album. The most interesting part is the bridge and then it ends. It's just very repetitive and doesn't do anything for me.

HBDYWM will forever and always be a skip for me. Sorry, I just don't like this type of music, and its just too close to Taylor Swifts "music" for me. The song is catchy and if it comes on shuffle while I'm doing something, I'll let it play. But If I'm able to skip it I will. I really can't relate to this song at all, which is funny because Gaga is 3 years older than me and this song is just so immature.

SOAM I love, but feels out of place where it is on the album. I think lyrically it fits with the others, but sonically its just very random. I can't help but feel like if some more music videos aren't released soon, she kind of dropped the ball (again) and missed the opportunity for a huge visual project. She has that prescription drug money now, where are the music videos mama...

SOAM (among many other tracks) are SCREAMING for visuals...She could have a huge political moment with this song (similar to how Free Woman could have been) but I suppose let's wait and see. No music video during album release week AND no music videos for 3 months is wild....

The Beast is amazing and one of her best vocal moments on the album. Love this change of pace for her and it really was surprising. Blade of Grass is beautiful but makes me sad so I don't listen to it often, but I love it.

DWAS will forever and always be a skip, doesn't fit on the album, and was clearly put on the album for sales. That's just the truth, sorry if you disagree :huntyga: Beyond just the genre of the song, the mixing and production is COMPLETELY different from the rest of the album (obviously since it was done by different people) and it just feels so out of place. I tried for SO long with this song, I really did, but its just not for me.

Can't Stop The High should have DEFINITELY been included on the album over tracks like HBDYWM and Don't Call Tonight. That song packs such a punch and I love it so much.

Kill For Love is great too, but pretty much just a rehash of SOAM. I love it because I love disco, but really just feels like SOAM pt 2. Still should have been included over the skips I mentioned. Really not sure what the thought process was to exclude these songs....

Overall, I love the album but still am hopeful for more "hard hitting beats" and industrial sounds from her in the future. I really want a dance-industrial project that she's been sitting on since HML. I know she has it in her so idk why it hasn't happened. Disease is STILL one of, if not my top, track on the album. It never ages for me. Those beats and production and layers are everything. Really wish more of the album was like that....

The album was previously in my top two but over time is top 3. BTW and ARTPOP just hit so much harder than MAYHEM. It would be ranked higher if she kept the pace with more songs like Disease, Abra, PC, GOE, CSTH, KFL...

Top tracks (ranking depends on the day)
1) Disease
2) Abra
3) PC
4) Killah
5) GOE

IN CLOSING - Regardless of any complaints or criticisms I have for this album or era, I'm really just so proud of her. Tbh, ever since Judas was released and she kind of started a downward trajectory with the public that only continued during and after ARTPOP, I never knew if she would SERVE this hard again. The ARTPOP era was obviously marred with controversy and we all know how unhappy she was. But ever since that era it just kind of felt like continuously waiting and waiting being disappointed because we knew her heart wasn't in it.

We waited through C2C, then AHS, then the tribute era. Then Joanne came after what was (at the time) her longest wait between albums. And it was obviously not the genre we wanted so it was hard to adjust. Then we waited and waited for Chromatica and even though it has some standout tracks, the era is traumatic honestly and so many missed opportunities. Then we waited and waited for 5 more years! So we had literally been waiting OVER A DECADE for a non-botched, fully realized era and we finally got it!

She delivered so much this era and crossed off lots of things that fans wanted. Industrial sounds, choreo, longer songs, bridges, dark visuals, TONS of promo and interviews, the list goes on and on. It's amazing to see her so happy and fulfilled now too. I just love that her journey has come full circle and she loves being a popstar again. Never in a million years did I imagine nearly 20 years into her career would she be ON TOP like she is now. She really did THAT! And this is so rare for female popstars!

Sure I still want a visual album, double album or BTW-esque tracklist length, industrial album, etc. But she did enough. Maybe next era :cheeky:
