He said he was authorizing the U.S. Trade Representative to process the institution of the tariff because the United States' movie industry is dying "a very fast death" due to other countries offering incentives to attract filmmaker's and studios. "This is a concerted effort by other Nations and, therefore, a National Security threat," Trump said in a post on Truth Social. "It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda!" You don't make it impossible for the US to import goods (or use foreign studios or whatever), you incentivize using US goods. Give companies a tax break for buying their sh*t here rather than shipping it in from somewhere else. Give a US based film studio a boon instead of forbidding foreign films. You have to make the US a valuable partner, not abusively prohibit us from doing anything with the rest of the goddamn planet. From my understanding, it is about American-funded films choosing to shoot in other countries for financial reasons. Is he claiming that to release a movie/TV show in the US that wasn’t filmed here, you need to upfront pay an extra 100% of the production costs to the US government? nonsensical and illegal, add it to the pile.
