Met Gala 2024
The Met Gala is a charity event and fundraiser for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. It has traditionally been timed to mark the opening of its annual fashion exhibition. This year, the event will take place on Monday, May 5

The theme
This year’s Met Gala theme celebrates the Costume Institute’s new spring exhibition, titled Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. The exhibition—which explores the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora—will be arranged by 12 characteristics of Black dandyism. The exhibition was spearheaded by curator in charge Andrew Bolton, as well as guest curator Monica Miller—Professor and Chair of Africana Studies at Barnard College, Columbia University.

The dress code
The dress code for the event will be "tailored for you.”The dress code is a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear, and is “purposefully designed to provide guidance and invite creative interpretation.”

The co-chairs
The 2025 Met Gala co-chairs will include Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour. LeBron James will also serve as an honorary chair.

Livestream
The Met Gala red carpet livestream will take place on Monday, May 5th starting at 6:00 pm ET.

This is an industry that hires thousands of people and supports artisanal techniques that would entirely disappear if fast fashion was all that was left. Fashion might seem superficial, but it generates both creative and financial wealth for numerous countries. I also think it's not such a bad thing to put more beautiful things out into the world in these troubled days. Your criticism could be drawn against all sorts of cultural activities and entertainment as a whole, and I don't think any one of us wants a society without culture and entertainment.

More on topic, I hope men will finally get the message and choose to do something special... As for women, I do enjoy a masculine spin on a female wardrobe. Hopefully we'll see some Saint Laurent tuxedo nods and some JPG.

It's not about the fashion itself but the event, it's not different than 11 minute in barely space.

this. i hate the whole ‘hunger games’ bit they’re trying to push on the met gala. yes, celebrities are in more extravagant pieces compared to the normal person but aren’t they most of the time? 😭

Kim K is the perfect example how rich Americans turned fashion into trash and iconic fashion outfit has been destroyed.

I agree there's excess and a demonstration of privilege being at play here, but it might be worth mentioning that the MET Ball is first and foremost a fundraiser dedicated to preserving the collections of the Costume Institute, as well as showcasing the work and savoir-faire of international fashion houses that, as I mentioned, generate thousands of jobs. You might not enjoy what some of the guests stand for, but this is not what this event is about and you shouldn't reduce it to that.

I'd argue it's more necessary now than ever. Go on Twitter for 2 seconds and you'll see what limiting art and artistic literacy is doing to people nowadays. It is very extravagant, but this is the pinnacle of the fashion business. Should we expect it not to?

With her current schedule, I highly doubt she'll waste energy going to an event she usually skips even when she's not busy.

she never attends anything other than the grammy's/oscars/vma's and she attended the iheartawards this year.

The schedule is packed and the rest time will be minimal but i can see her attending tbh.

This, I’m not EXPECTING her to attend but it’s far from impossible, especially during an album campaign
