Variety: Katy Perry has become an internet laughingstock — but she's still a star

Mockery it may be but at least they're checking for her. Whether it's a flop single, flop album, shaky performance at a fundraiser, bad choreography on a tour or a self-congratulatory space ride, the world notices her and makes their feelings public. Love her or hate her, the public still care about her enough to comment, so she's still got star power whether we like it or not.

I personally think Katy was too big at her peak (bigger than xtina), hence the buzz around her gonna be bigger and be remembered. But i do pity her. Her music is not as bad people try to make it sounds. It is just bland but some songs are catchy. If these songs were released when she was still relevant (musically), some of these would be hits

Her biggest issue is authenticity. She has always acted like a stereotypical pop singer from California. Her songs don’t feel personal nor do they connect with people on a deeper level. She’s like a product moulded by her label to sell and market herself as much as possible. She doesn’t contribute to her work that much because you can clearly tell by how over produced and bland her songs and music videos have become. She doesn’t take any risks and unfortunately she has 0 respect amongst the press and general public now. She had a legendary run from 2008 to 2013 and people are only buying her concert tickets to relive that nostalgia.

From what I’ve seen, the majority of the backlash she got was for working with a known r*pist, the music being bland was just an afterthought. Then the whole space thing happened and people were focusing on how out of touch she is. If it weren’t for Dr. Luke and the space trip, I think she would’ve been fine

bottom line is katy doesnt have the vision or talent to back up her fame. she got lucky with TD, but everything else has been meh.

gagas always had the talent and vision and thats why she is able to stay relevant.

I for one want to see her keep going. I hope she doesn't stop making music and take all this criticism as feedback. She has the potential to become one of the most interesting pop stars in the industry with a bit more discipline in the delivery of her vocals, choreography and music production.

Bashing a woman who did X nasty things shouldn't be confused with "bashing women" in general. And men being douche takes crap on GGD too.

There's no way I ain't better than the nun-killer. :huntyga:

Schitts Creek What GIF by CBC

I meant that she's doing a 5 continent world tour so dates have mostly sold out, it's just the US ones that are struggling a bit but they don't make up the majority.

I think she got a bit too successful as well. That level of success can cause the pendulum to swing in the other direction as the public deal with fatigue of your constant presence. Then the inevitable question of "do they deserve all this?" comes up. It really got people's backs up when she tied MJ's record (and technically broke it if you consider Part Of Me to be on the album as it was a re-release track) that really got people's backs up and she started dwindling not long after that. Being at the top is a blessing and a curse and what goes up must come down. But yeah, if she was still considered relevant, these recent songs would probably perform better, which is a sad reflection on our time that public perception will be what decides if we think your music's good or not.
