My thoughts from this thread ( Don’t know why it won’t embed)

Perfect celebrity : the ghost of a betrayed album

Just move on, the album is out, Gaga is proud of it. It has gotten the best meta critic of any of her album, it’s successful(-ish). Listen to the songs you vibe to. One will say this is core Gaga and another will not. Someone says best in years and another one hates it. A creative process is ever changing - the final product can be what you intended from start or it could be different but it will always be told in the lens of the artist and what they say about it and you can either buy in to it or not, you are the perceiver of the artists art. Michael stopped her creative process, yes or no? Still your opinion. We can’t know what happened behind the scenes.

“When people think that they know what Lady Gaga is, I want to remind them that they don't". - Lady Gaga

“That’s why I am the artist you’re the public” - Lady Gaga

Gaga is versatile-artist, a chameleon, someone who is able to make anything really. What Gaga is for you is not for someone else. She has something for everyone in her music catalogue and so in Mayhem too. She always touches alot of genres. Some like piano Gaga others like her theatrical crafts. It’s different for everyone.

It’s not humane to like EVERYTHING from an artist. For example, do you seriously think a Michelin cook or a Professional Cook could use your most hated ingredient/spice in a dish and you would still eat it and like it? I don’t think so, or maybe…yes…no…well (;

Also like a painter who paints modern hyper-realism, why, there’s photography, the painter holds the technical skill but does it make us feel something or is it too polished? Or maybe see the talent/work and say cool but not for me. That’s ok.

Maybe appreciate the effort atleast?!

This time around Gaga rediscovered having fun with creating music again, you can hear it in the songs, that’s the consensus which you can’t take away. She made songs that she likes, took genres and inspiration from her icons. You can like it not and both are ok.

Mayhem holds atleast a song for everyone, listen to the trance pop anthem abracadabra, or the rock industrial pop banger Disease, or listen to the funky disco song zombieboy, or the electro disco song shadow of a man or the ballad blade of grass, or the radio pop song how bad do u want me.

We all should just stop be so harsh and offended if someone does not share the same opinion as oneself.

A subjective opinion is not the truth. People need to learn how to discuss. Sometimes the majority is right/wrong, sometimes the minority is right/wrong. Sometimes critics are right/wrong and sometimes noncritics/fans are right/wrong.

Everyone still has their right and to their opinion and feelings. But you need to able to broaden your view and be able to see where the other is coming from!

RESPECT and have nice discussions.

Just enjoy what you enjoy from the era. No need to do raging “what ifs”

She works her ass off right now in preparing all the coming shows and tour, we’ll be fed regardless:firega:

:ohwell:MY opinion/feelings:ohwell:

Disease and Abracadabra is the most Gaga songs on the album. Thought I would never hear that type of songs from her (again). It felt fresh, it felt Gaga, it was nostalgic, it felt like it was pushing and experimenting with the sound.

( PC & ZB could be included too, one intense and “rebellious” and one campy and fun ( killag and GOE too….)

Disease and Abracadabra does feel like they belong on another album. I’ve listened to Mayhem without them and prefer it that way. I like the two songs more as stand alones:traumatica:

This album is masterfully crafted technically, production wise and  has great melodies. You can’t argue against that and the consensus I said above.

The album as whole did not however wow or move me much, except the 2 first songs, and that is okay.

Where it falls off for me, personally, is two things. The lyrics and the genres. The lyrics are lazy, too frequently used words, basic words, not ”deep” or evocative. Sonically I love GOE, but the lyrics however kills the song for me, just an example do I need to explain more lol…

( I’d argue ARTPOP is lyrically better, they are absurd, so camp and weird that they become genius)

The disco and funk sound was both popular 10 years ago (around 2015) and at the start of this decade (2020). I’m fed up with it, it feels ”dated”. I LIVED when she did the Tom Ford campaign and covered I want your love, I ate it up so hard, but that ship has sailed, I would have lived if LG5 did not turn into Joanne…

Also, the rock is getting tiring too, way too mainstream right now. I don’t understand people wanting a metal/rock album, we’ve got BTW and some songs from Mayhem. That’s enough. New genres to the mainstream please, I’m waiting :iamfair:

The album does indeed blend in alot of genres but I don’t agree or think that it is pushing sound ( as she said in Rolling stone interview )  Just because you lend a genre/sound/inspiration in a song, it does not become that genre.

I, as the majority probably thought we would get a full hard hitting techno, industrial, dark pop record. I totally miss those vibes/sound, can I hear it in the songs layers, of course but it is still only a layer. Did we get glimpses of it? Yes and I choose those songs to listen to.

With the whole aesthetic and concept thing, I do think it is just slammed together ( Mayhem, chaos) and doesn’t have a clear direction, but is that so bad? It does what it is supposed to. Gaga regaining and having her back freedom. It being easy and fun, not that serious. Do I personally like it?, meh, but I can somewhat understand and appreciate it.

I appreciate Mayhem for what it is, but more for what it means to Gaga and her finding back to herself again. Her revisiting her old sound from the fame and succeed, you seriously need to be so skilled to encapsulate the vibe and sound from your early days and make it new, how many have done that(?) She also made the music she likes and drew massive inspiration from her idols… It’s super cool even if I am done with that sound and not listening to that type of music. I still see the craft for what it is, it does not need to be into my liking.

If Mayhem is what was needed, I am even more excited to see the coming performance and I’ll be happily waiting for the next era where the music might align with me more :queenga:

I’ll just keep listening to the songs on mayhem I personally like, and I’ll love and live for the photos and outfits that evoke something for me. Take in what you like:lolly:

Peace out:bye:
