JoeCool 690
To me it's her songs and albums from ARTPOP and before. She still had that low budget raw energy. 3
weed 77,458
As of right now I would say... probably the same, ARTPOP and before is "old school" Middle school is harder to give boundaries to.... and prob controversial but I feel like modern era started with Hold My Hand perhaps
Anderson123 41,376
As of right now, The Fame -> ARTPOP is "old school Gaga" to me. New Gaga seems like it's everything from the jazz albums, Joanne and A Star Is Born to Chromatica and Mayhem. It also feels like from Die With A Smile, Harlequin and Mayhem we got a new Gaga chapter. Hopefully this is a brand new start to many more great things to come. So maybe one day we will see Cheek To Cheek, Joanne, A Star Is Born, Chromatica, Hold My Hand and Love For Sale as "Chapter 2". RochesterJoannster 3,885
BTW and before. ARTPOP to a much lesser extent, but it does make sense to include it. Cheek To Cheek is the real cutoff, but ARTPOP was still different enough that it never feels right to lump it in with the early eras. I've seen several Mayhem listening videos and it seems like the general public usually sees The Fame, The Fame Monster and Born This Way as "old school Gaga" in a way that it's a very distinctive type of music she did during that time. ARTPOP was a bit different in it's own way even if it came out around the same time and it wasn't really that impactful to the casual listener. The correct answer here would be The Fame, The Fame Monster and Born This Way are "old school Gaga" albums.
REALITY 79,486
I became a monster during ARTPOP, and that to me didn’t feel like “old school Gaga.” In my mind, BTW and everything before is “old school.” Like, even though it’s been 13 years, I still consider myself a “new”/newer fan 😭 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔪𝔲𝔰𝔦𝔠'𝔰 𝔤𝔬𝔫𝔫𝔞 𝔟𝔯𝔦𝔫𝔤 𝔪𝔢 𝔟𝔞𝔠𝔨 𝔣𝔯𝔬𝔪 𝔡𝔢𝔞𝔱𝔥
socotra 3,357
ARTPOP is when you can really hear the change in her voice, so I would say TF-BTW is true "old school." The first three were also released in relatively quick succession and then ARTPOP took over 2 years and was her first true extended break after making it mainstream. It's one of her older albums but I don't think it's part of the original old school run

Bronco 19,625
I think ARTPOP is unique enough compared to The Fame/Fame Monster/Born This Way that it marks the end of the "Old school Gaga" era. The Fame through to the BTWB ending due to the injury is in my mind a singular imperial era. ARTPOP was always more of a "comeback" because of the narrative created through the BTWB ending and her having to take time out due to surgery & recovery. I fully remember settling into to watch the iTunes festival performance with friends on skype all wanting to see what the return of Gaga was about to look like. The gays know how to party
