regardless of what miss ga says, DWAS will always be a JFAD reject in my eyes. not only does the title and song itself go hand in hand with the film, her makeup in the video is a straight reference to the iconic makeup used for both characters within the lashes she uses to kind of, recreate that diamond shape. sure, it could have just been paying homage and in a way trying to make the eras flow within eachother (similar to Harlequin era and the makeup/ themes used to connect to MAYHEM - Disease video makeup similarities), but it's just too on the nose. the story changed multiple times and i just cannot see it other than what it was originally presented as: a droplet duet created by two musicians who spent time in the studio together where she was inspired by her role and the film itself

I’m gonna believe a conspiracy theory where Gaga pulled die with a smile out of joker after negative early viewings and previews and reworked it with Bruno to save it from going down with the ship.

If you look at the credits for die with a smile, Gaga has songwriting credits before Bruno. The order of songwriters historically is in descending order of those who played the biggest role to the least. If this really was Bruno’s song, I’d think he would have credit for his verse, and the chorus, where Gaga would have credit for her verse and maybe the bridge. Even if she had credit for the bridge, I’d still think her role in the song would be less than Bruno’s.

so while my joker theory may be a bit far fetched, I whole heartedly don’t believe this is a Bruno song. Everything points to the contrary.

Trigger warning:

And in the original ending of ASIB, Bradley was planning to drown himself. "We're far from the shallow now." :laughga:

Yes, I can confirm — Joker 2 was supposed to have more original songs but due last minute script changes they were cut or replaced.

DWAS was supposed to be sung with Joaquin. In fact some Mayhem tracks were supposed to be part of the soundtrack. Notice how there’s lots of references to murder in “Killah” and “Kill For Love”.

The original script had Joker and Harley going on a musical kill streak throughout Gotham.

I remember before the release there was some leaked promo that related the song to the movie, but they never made it official and I think it was a Todd decision cause he was well aware of the final cut. which is a shame, cause the song would've done lots for the movie.

it was some silly thing like a cover uploaded on genius that had some very "it feels veridic" stuff and fonts that were used in official artwork later.

I could see it fitting in Joker, since it's kinda dark for a love song

If it wasn't accepted to the movie, then probably they just wanted to put it out anyway cause they new it was good

Or maybe they were influenced by Joker when writing it due to her being in Harley personality at the time?

Are you for real? :ladyhaha:

How is Shallow spoiling the way DWAS is? AND the point is, DWAS was not used for the movie, thus they did not use it for trailers or promo or anything related to the movie, but that DOESN'T change the fact, that it can be originally written for the movie... What's not clicking?

Ppl were already assuming it was for Joker simply because it fits the theme, until it wasn't.

I don't believe Gaga would EVER pull a song from a movie for those reasons. If anything she'd keep it in to allow herself some more credit. DWAS would have been flaunted as part of Joker 2 by a million and one people from the studio side if it had been the case. And legally speaking, Gaga would not have control over what is being put on the soundtrack. She might get creative input, but they would not pay her for a song for her to just take it away when the ship starts sinking.

If you look at the credit for DWAS, you'll also see James Fauntleroy, D'Mile, and Andrew Watt. James and D'Mile are both heavy Bruno collaborators and Watt is the producer on Mayhem. James also has another credit on Mayhem, Zombieboy. So if anything, Gaga was working on Zombieboy with Watt, and Watt brough in James. And then time came to write DWAS and he brought in D'Mile and Bruno.

She theoretically could've added this to Harlequin and kept Happy Mistake in Mayhem.

Oh man, I prefer this so much!
