Trump orders elimination of Department of Education

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday aiming to eliminate the U.S. Education Department, advancing a campaign promise to eliminate an agency that’s been a longtime target of conservatives.

Trump has derided the department as wasteful and polluted by liberal ideology. Completing its dismantling is most likely impossible without an act of Congress, which created the department in 1979.

An incredibly desensitized one. Things like this are not shocking to the average American. That's the issue. And then there's the whole people who voted for him thing.

The amount of "education should be a state issue anyway" posts I've seen is unhinged. People really refuse to see the big picture

I’ve stopped having a reaction to most of the stuff he does because this is deliberately what he and his party wants to do, spread fear and worry of the government. What the news isn’t willing to show is that he’s being contested in court almost every single day ever since Inauguration because of Biden packing the federal courts.  He’s still doing ****ed up things that are worthy of pushback, but this will immediately be brought to court like the birthright thing. Even with a slim majority, they still cannot do this without Congress and get away legally scott free as much as they want you to believe

The unfortunate reality is that a lot of people are unable to see the bigger picture because they can't understand it or refuse to. A lot of people who voted for him the first time around, and even the second, don't understand exactly what they're voting for. And, those that do, couldn't care less, because in their eyes, they're still better than the people he's going after.

i'm busy worrying about my existence as a trans man being denied and being forced back into the closet, tbh.  none of my family is in public education anymore, but i have a cousin with a kid on the way and i'm fearing for that child's education now.

I know I’ve said this before but conservatives really are threatened by education because it liberates people and gives them a power that they don’t like. They want everyone to operate within a narrow world view and not emancipate themselves.

I returned to teaching this school year and regret it. I’m tryna get out but am against the elimination of the DoE. It feels hopeless that there’s nothing we can do. We just have to accept and live thru this??? That doesn’t seem right
