vmpiregrn 791
I know we’ve only had a couple performances, but especially listening back to the acoustic Howard Stern performances, I really feel like this is the best she’s sounded in a very long time. She honestly sounded a bit fatigued and strained to me throughout Chromatica, raspier but not in a theatrical way. Her voice sounds much freer and healthier and she’s utilizing her upper range more. I’m not a singer so I don’t really have the vocabulary to articulate what I hear but it’s there. It’s interesting because her voice sounds much better on this album too, and I figure she was probably recording this around the same time she was touring for Chromatica Ball, when she sounded good but (imo) nowhere near as good as she sounds on Mayhem or in the performances we’ve gotten this era. If you’re a singer or at least know what you’re talking about when it comes to this I’d like to hear your input especially!
Pablo 7,670
She sounded incredible for Harlequin too. I wonder if she has actually quit smoking, I know that can be a factor. Don't visit my profile

True! In my head I kind of view Harlequin as a pre-Mayhem, even though realistically the two albums were recorded quite far apart. But that Jimmy Kimmel performance was somewhat recent and she displayed chops up to par with her most recent performances. I think back in the Joanne era she was claiming she only smoked here and there, lighting up a cigarette in the studio, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Michael’s line of work (cancer research ) influenced her to really quit. (Yes she took a puff on SNL, but I’m sure she’s always going to be a one-or-two-cigarettes a month type of gal. Drunk cigs are so real lol).
AVeryGagaHolyDick 23,461
She sounds great! Not the greatest she’s ever sounded though (imo)

I’m partial to her Born This Way Ball era vocals. Title should’ve probably been “better than it’s been in years.” It does feel like a lifetime since we’ve gotten vocals this good though
berlinforme 5,260
I think my favorite vocals of her were from the Joanne World Tour, for example when she was belting out the end of Alejandro at Citi Field stadium. But generally she does sound even better than a few years ago.
Red 97,528
Honestly she sounds just as good as in Chromatica, Love For Sale, Harlequin... She is a human, she can only get so far with her vocals If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

mightyriverz 2,331
undeniably, not only for how good and matured her vocals are but for how far she's been playing and experimenting with them

It’s still there, but honed beautifully by her.
Ronk 14,729
She sounds great. Maybe the best ever. I live outside the space time continuum.

The one on SNL was 100% a fake cigarette bc they wouldn’t allow that at 30 Rock
Taumaturg0 275
She does, after that rough patch in 2019, which I'm sure was mainly due to the chain smoking, her voice has been in constant recovery and improvement. SSoH was a clear proof of that, and it only got better in Harlequin and Mayhem. Edited March 19 by Taumaturg0

To my ear her voice deteriorated through each run in Vegas in 2019, and I don't think you need to be a rocket scientist to work out that that wasn't a great time for her personally. Since then, post-Michael perhaps, there has been steady improvement imo, and everything recently, Jimmy Kimmel, Superbowl, Antidote, SNL, both the albums, they've all been superb. The harshness is slowly being drowned in honey. I don't know if it's the best she's ever been, but it's great at the moment.
