Well, yes. If this is based purely on points accrued from the BB 100 and 200, points are much lower now as BB has adjusted its formula over time, adding components like audio and video streaming, adjusting the weight of others like airplay, etc. It’d be cool if they released a data set to accompany a list like this since a big portion of their target audience for it has to be the stan world, who’d love to dig in to the actual numbers.

Katy edging out Gaga on a points-based list is not surprising. Subjectively, her influence this century was limited to only a few years and 1 album +/- ~2 singles each direction. But, that album alone had the same number of singles released as TFM+BTW combined, and unlike Gaga post-TF, everything she released got an insane amount of Airplay across several formats, and she put out a lot of remixes that collected digital sales points.

Streaming has also allowed skewed the perception of album performance. TD was more comparable to BTW in terms of pure sales, but over time, it’s been able to “double dip” with those same hit singles counting toward SEA.

Yas for Pink, Gaga and Billie but lol Katy too high. She peaked with Teenage Dream and Prism and had one of the biggest falls and never recovered.

I think you’re right, there must be some kind of inscrutable weighting system to make this make sense.

Gaga would need to perform better on the hot100 then. This just proves how big of a deal the TD (and Prism) era was for Katy vs how Gaga has become more of an album artist rather than singles. ARTPOP really derailed these stats for her unfortunately. If that didn't happen then she would definitely be ahead of her by now.

Her impact. Her very Scottish impact. She owned the charts in 2009/10. People so easily forget her numbers.

PartySick

This made me look up how many albums each has sold and it's honestly a little crazy how little the sales represent their actual popularity (sources date back to 2023 at the earliest)

Taylor - 164 "equivalent album sales"*

Katy - 70 million

Gaga - 170 million

Beyoncé - 200 million

*I can't find a figure for her that doesn't use some form of this term. Idk what it means. To me, an album sale is someone buying an album. Anything else is probably some stupid "____ streams = 1 sale" equation that makes no sense. Why aren't there two charts? One for actual sales and one for streams? You can't equate the two so idgi :smh:

Anyway...

Beyoncé is objectively #1. Literally nobody can contest that for any reason. Influence, sales, charts, success spanning decades, longevity, she has it all. BB has it wrong on that one.

Taylor's great at the business side of things and keeping herself relevant in people's wallets. She's a predator on the digital charts, spending over 80 weeks at #1 (only beaten by The Beatles who double that number).

Katy's a throwback act now but no one can deny how high her peak was. She was literally being compared to Michael Jackson at one point 'cause she was so successful. She fell from heights that most artists will never see.

Gaga's undeniably influential and has multiple peaks in her career. She died by her art only to reinvent in a major way. The relevance she's able to keep, the acclaim she gets for just how flexible she is and how diverse her work is, that's something most artists today could only dream of. Very few achieve it.

Literally the only issue I take is giving Taylor Beyoncé's flowers just 'cause she games the charts better but it's just a dumb list made to get clicks from stans anyway. Who cares.
