During Canadian PM Mark Carneys visit to France and London defence was a dominant discussion and among them the need to diversify away from US made defence since the US is increasingly no longer considered an Ally

 

Canada is reconsidering its contract to buy the rest of their F35 Fighter jets from the US. EU Nations such as Portugal and Germany also expressed a desire to shift away military supply from US producers to other allied Countries.

 

Discussion about building a more durable supply chain also took place. While some defence industry exists in some Countries especially France, it will be hard to supply the entire Nato alliance without any US manufactured equipment. The goal will be to build bigger supply chains across the EU and Canada to shift away dependance on the US

 

In the meantime for certain things, alternatives do exist. Fighter jets made in the EU of near equal quality exist and desire to purchase them instead of US fighter jets was expressed even if the cost is not 100% competitive

I think the most power Europe has in face of Trump isolationism is blackmail via China. EU member states can invite Chinese military into their territory, and allow them to build bases there. And then Trump will sober up real quick, because he knows the US cannot afford losing a core part of its sphere of influence to its most poignant adversary.

Romania, for instance, should withhold the buiding of the largest US military base in Europe and invite China in, if US acts contrary to its interests!

After all, Trump likely has China in mind already. Russia could be a potential ally in an open conflict between the US and China so there is value in appeasing it, to him. Each country has its own interests and there are smart ways to act upon them, including blackmail.

Trump still wouldnt sober up cuz hes too stuburn and will never ever ever admit he was wrong

Germany also voted today on unlimited defence spending and a 500 billion Euro extra budget for infrastructure over the next 10 years. So happy we're finally starting to move away from the US
