This is funny, so you must be. Several times it's stated that this is the biggest album sales in over 6 months, that the actual sales vs streaming split gave her various career bests, she is having a resurgence in popularity and the record has critical acclaim. If youre hoping for massively frontloaded sales followed by a huge drop off, I get your point, but what does that do for the album's legs besides stop it dead in its tracks? Yes, Mayhem did not have tour bundles, but it had a massive rollout, promo spots, a #1 hit single, over 145% increase in monthly listeners and critical acclaim. Gaga’s image is also more healthy. Mayhem should’ve matched Chromaticas range and make at least 260-280k. Fans can say all they want, but sales wise, Gaga is lukewarm. it doesnt mean she cant be commercially successful, but her numbers are Tour-focused. I'm surprised how HDD was way off, though I guess I shouldn't be as they've been overestimating numbers for various artists lately. I think unlike Joanne and Chromatica, she has way more potential hits and thus, ways to give the album longevity. With the former two, we knew they were pretty much done promotion-wise because there were no more potential earworms for the GP. The fact it’s #1 is a bonus, she’s done similar to Beyoncé numbers. I feel like this album with have more longevity especially if the tour is coming later on. Gagasdisease 154 Posted March 16 Share Posted March 16 On one hand this is good, numbers are solid, critics love the album and I personally don't care about any of it because it's my favorite album since BTW... BUT on the other hand, I was expecting higher numbers since DWAS is still #1 and because most of her fans seem to love it so I was expecting US monsters to buy more... I do hope they're playing the long game though, Abra can still reach top 10 in the US with radio and some push, and many other songs have the potential to become hits with good videos and Tiktok push in the future... Also when she announces the tour (presumably), she'll benefit for tour bundles too... I think it’s more important to look at the long game and this is an album with a lot of legs to it. Forgot about bundles, so yeah, that's partly why albums sold so much better back then. And the world was in such a crazy place that it was amazing it did as well as it did. She's also a much bigger streaming force and streaming almost matters more than album sales these days. Most people stream singles and albums as oppose to downloading them now. So that amazing 219 million stream opening week is a lot more telling than copies sold and more than makes up for the lower album sales figure. Chart position means even less than it used to nowadays because streaming's where it's at. And definitely the locals are a lot more interested in Gaga right now as getting her songs to hit status has never been down to the fans alone. She's not been this cool and relevant in a long time.
