Lady Gaga is set to take on Chappell Roan for Number 1 this week – Abracadabra (2) is less than 1,400 chart units away from Pink Pony Club (1), which became the first UK chart-topper for pop sensation Chappell Roan last Friday.

Following the release of MAYHEM, Gaga could also score a 18th UK Top 10 hit with Garden of Eden (10), while Vanish Into You plots a Top 20 debut (14).

Does anyone know how the UK Single Charts work? It is interesting seeing how the songs move around, up and down quite easily from one week to the other just like the Hot 100 in the old days. Now the songs on the BB Hot 100 can be in the Top 10 for moths and months and new songs can barely make a decent debut or even reach the Top 10.

I think we’re more flexible (and don’t count radio).

Happy to be corrected as I’m not much of a little chartster anymore, but the way UK works to my understanding is:

1 download = sale

100 premium streams = sale

600 YT streams = sale 

These ratios will increase by 50% should a song be in the top 100 after its 9th straight week to make the charts less stagnant. The reason we do this is to make it fair for new artists.

I looked up what a until is, so it's not just 1400 digital copies of the song:

"The Official UK Chart is calculated by sales as well as both music and video streams, with a variable streaming ratio depending on whether the user has a free or paid subscription. This means that 100 paid streams will equal one sale, as will 600 free streams."
