This is not gonna help against Russia's blackmail of 4500 nuclear weapons. Ukraine had more inhabitants than Poland and is nevertheless losing. Russia has 100 milliion more inhabitants than Poland. Poland was betrayed by UK and France during WW2, it is likely it will be betrayed again by the West. The West is not gonna risk Washington for Warsaw.

If Poland had nuclear weapons, it could save money by not having a large army because once you have nuclear weapons, you don't need a large army anymore. If I was a Polish resident, I would ask the government "Why are we drawn into a weak army? Why don't you develop nuclear weapons like Uk and France did?"

The thing is declaring war on Poland will be declaring war on the EU and  NATO…. And the EU has much more people and money then Russia! Also I think Poland is in a better economic situation then Ukraine was/is.

Poland has been betrayed many times by the West and Russia. During WW2, the UK and France watched for months, doing relatively little, despite treaty commitments ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoney_War#Inactivity ).

Only when Poland was completely destroyed, and it was realized that Germany would also launch attacks on Western Europe, did they actively enter the war. Not out of love for Poland, but to protect themselves. This did little to help Poland, which was later handed over to Soviet control.

Precisely because Poland has a strong economy, France may be inclined to help Poland with delay and belatedness in the event of war, because it wants Poland to be destroyed so that France has not another economic competition in Europe and remains a hegemon. France was against Germany's reunification.

My trust in NATO Article 5 is limited.  Germany could say "If we were attacked, we would give up territory, as in WW2, as advice to Poland to Russia". The UK could send helmets. Spain a few tanks after 3 months. Italy a military helicopter from 1976. Honestly, I even think NATO would help non-Nato member Ireland more than Poland, because Ireland is a culturally close anglophone nation for the US/UK and a buffer state for the UK.

Ukraine has the Budapest Memorandum, which promises aid from the USA and the UK, but this aid is rather meager and late. It is not being observed much, and Article 5 is also rather unlikely to be complied with to the satisfaction of Poland, because it is vaguely worded, there are no specific quantities of weapons, soldiers or time limits that are legally binding, everything is at the discretion of the states themselves, which can opt for minimum variants and no punishments if they do not help Poland.

If I were Poland, I would prefer to rely on nuclear weapons. Then Russia would not attack me. Then no country would attack me. Then I would not be dependent on NATO, but could still remain a part of it.

Russia cannot win such a war if the West cooperates, but Poland would still be severely destroyed. I think that in any case, nuclear weapons would be the better solution. They prevent an initial attack in the first place, and so large-scale damage is not caused in the first place. And the young men don't have to join the military either. A professional army would be sufficient, since a large army would be superfluous thanks to nuclear weapons.

I’m from Poland and you’re right. It will be a non-mandatory military training for all genders, that’s what our prime minister said.
