What I meant is that, within the context of sexually explicit music, Gaga has never been that girl in the same way Madonna or Nicki are - and I think that's what Chapell was talking about and why she used those names.

I feel like Gaga's sexual expression was treated like a joke, or that she was just written off as "weird" as a whole, whereas Nicki and Rihanna would constantly be called bad role models by the GP and scolded for being too openly sexual in their music. Maybe I'm misremembering but I don't think that was ever in the public conversation for Gaga in the 2010s. 

Gaga would still get called satanic or whatever but her sexuality was never spoken about in the same way - likely because she wasn't considered threatening in the same was a Black woman was, and she wasn't thought of as being conventionally attractive like your average pop star.

Yes as an artist she has obviously pushed boundaries (I'm a member of a Gaga fan forum guys, give me the benefit of the doubt pls lmao) but I don't think the mainstream, public perception of her music is that it's sexual or raunchy in the same way Nicki's is. Gaga has some songs about f*cking and sucking but like... she's not writing Truffle Butter lmao

I think she's crossing her wires and mixing herself up. I think she's trying to talk about artists who have a large queer following, and also artists in general who paved the way for her to be the artist she is today. But girlie really needs to have some PR training and learn how to translate her thoughts into thoughtful, cohesive sentences

Madonna-I agree-queer activist, uses her platform often and powerfully to support the full LGBTQ+ community. 
 

Rihanna-queer activist in a more subtle way. Has spoken up for the communities rights in the past and has used her platform occasionally. 
 

Nicki Minaj-an opportunist. Uses the queer community when it’s relevant and convenient for her….but has multiple songs with queer and transphobic lyrics. Queer clubs love her beats though, but does not a pioneering women of queer music does that make…

However…a piece of me don’t trust this Roan chick…she is smart and calculated…and I think she knew by naming these three only it would garner attention, discussion, and clickbait to keep her relevant.
