French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a European summit in Paris on Monday, February 17, to address recent challenges in US-Europe relations under the Trump administration.

The summit is expected to focus on Europe’s role in negotiations concerning Russia’s war against Ukraine, the continent’s position on Ukraine’s NATO membership, and potential security guarantees for Ukraine.

Except Poland, no countries from Eastern Europe were invited to the meeting:

Not inviting certain central, eastern, and southern European countries is wild.

I would say Southern Europe (Italy, Spain) was better-represented and is relatively far and uninterested in the conflict.

But not inviting the most affected countries is inexcusable and shows that Western Europe and Russia have a similar outlook on the area, ie: see the region as an agglomeration of unimportant buffer zones that have no seat at the big table. :traumatica:

Europe has yet again been bamboozled by their so-called unconditional ally. Writing was on the wall since the start. The US sees Europe as their backyard, not much different than the way they see any country in Africa or Latin America.

Yeah I hate to say it but Trump is right that Europe has basically relied on the US for 95% of its defense.

There is no need for an 'emergency meeting'. Europe needs to divest from US protection and stand up for itself.

Such ignorant takes. It’s a proportionate agreement based on each allies economy. It’s so rich to me that the US for decades has valued the importance of security and ally ship because it maintains the status quo around the world and prevents broader aggression from our real enemies (Russia, China). The US flipping from ‘look at our big army’ and ‘we can protect and rule the free world’ etc to ‘let’s just leave NATO’is insane. Now suddenly some people don’t seem to understand the benefit and it’s too expensive, okay, fine, cut your money to the NATO alliance. The amount of money it would cost for WW3 and to grandstand would be unfathomable. Trump and people that agree with him are cowards, it’s either maintain defence because you’re in too deep now or let the world slowly transcend into a world war which the US will inevitably be a part of because it has vested interests around the world. Do you really think Russia will stop with Ukraine?

I agree. I think China and India should be added to the USA-Russia talks because China and India could give advice to Ukraine on how to manage its resources wisely. So far, the US wants exclusive super-cheap access to all resources. If China and India were to be involved, there would be more competition and they could offer a a more attractive payment for Ukraine so that the Ukrainians have more income from their ressources. China has successfully prevented wars between North and South Korea as a diplomatic mediator and could also take on this role as a mediator in Eastern Europe.

The EU is a colonial empire of France and France sees itself at the center of the EU and the other states as its vassals. It is not at all surprising that the relatively smaller Eastern European states on the periphery of the EU do not exist for France and therefore do not receive an invitation.

I don't expect France to come up with a solution either, because France behaves in a similar way to Russia: France uses its nuclear weapons and military to occupy French Guiana, New Caledonia, Polynesia and Réunion and to deter other countries from interfering.

But France is not only destroying foreign cultures overseas, it is also destroying non-Parisian cultures within its own borders in Europe.

This year's ESC will take place in Basel, 3km away from Alsace, a former centuries-old Swiss German/Alemannic-speaking area whose culture France has destroyed and wiped out, replacing it with Parisian French. People right next to Basel who used to speak the same language as in Basel are now separated from Basel by a language barrier artificially created by Paris, forcing people to look to far-way Paris instead of Basel.

However, the Eastern European states did not miss out on anything at this meeting. The future of Ukraine will likely be determined by bilateral negotiations between the USA and Russia, as Europe usually has been since 1945.

They are colonies. New Caledonia has been colonized, settled by mainland French people who shifted the demographics in a way so that the demographic weight of native, ethnic New Caledonians is not big enough anymore for independence. The native New Caledonians want independence. But this is impossible because France granted voting rights to mainland French people who distort demographics, whose only purpose is to keep NC colonized.

They do not receive education in their native languages but are forced to have all subjects in French-only except for foreign language lessons. Their local government is in French-only. Their native languages are treated like shît by Paris. Paris wants them to behave like Parisians and buys them with subsidies.

The overseas territories have worse treatment than South Tirol in Italy. They are not even federal states like in Canada, US-America or Switzerland. Basel can decide about its education, taxes on its own. The French overseas terirtories thousand of miles away from Paris cannot do this. Because France is a hyper-centralized state, the colonies are furthermore always overvoted by mainland European-France.

Yes but Trump is hiding a very important fact: this protection arrangement which dates back to the Marshall Plan was agreed upon partly because it also benefited the US, which was in a very privileged position and continued to be in that position for decades. Now that the tide is changing, the US has no other option but to also take advantage of Europe's resources in the same way they did with poorer countries for decades and decades. This is a long time coming for Europe, but Trump isn't doing it because he wants to save money. He needs those resources and he can't get them if Europe remains a "formal" US ally.

The European leaders are making one big mistake.

They're responding to Trump and Maga like they are traditional politicians.

If they want to have a hope in hell of turning Trump's position round they need to talk Trump's language.

Time they started saying the US are cowards, turning yellow etc. Go after the pride and the ego and watch both Maga voters change their mind and Trump reverse course.

We are living in really interesting times, and most Americans (trump voters) don't seem to understand why the USA is number 1 and how vital the alliance between Europe and the USA is for the free world. And I can understand how leaders are worried, a belligerent USA is unprecedented.

China is the player to benefit the most from all this mess, they literally just need to not do anything and watch the balance of the world being shattered from the country that BENEFITS the MOST from said balance.

Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake

There are so many questions as to why, either he truly is, or more so the people around him, fundamentally dense or Trump will benefit financially somehow from destroying the states. That or they have evidence of something to use against him, hoping not a tape of a certain variety 🤢

The EU is so cooked if they keep treating the union as some sort of hierarchy so blantantly. It’s one of the biggest reasons there’s so much animosity against California and New York in the US. Big mistake.
