What’s the strategy this era? (No negativity)

I think they’re saving the heavy promo for later. People complain about the tributes, but she did exactly what was needed at the moment. And honestly I don’t really care about the promo rollout. At the end of the day, it’s Gaga, her team and her label who are making money, not me. In fact, they’re taking money from me :selena:

I’m just glad we’re being served with great music, amazing vocals and breathtaking visuals! Everything she’s done so far only leads me to believe that this era is going to be remarkable (it is already imo)!

Unless something changes over the next few weeks, I really think they are taking the approach of having her live "new Gaga music" performances scared and saving them for paid events. From a marketing standpoint, this is an amazing idea as it will drive concert sales through the roof. Icons like Prince and Bowie were similar in limiting their public performances.

From a fan standpoint, it kind of sucks :huntyga: but I trust her vision and lets just wait to see what happens. I'd love at least 1 Abra or Disease performance before the album is released...

I dont think there is hype of seing Abra live for the first time, unless you are a superfan. People will pay just because its Gaga, nobody cares about first Abra performance. Actually, the public prefer old music in general.

I work in marketing. If the strategy isn’t clear to the buyer (e.g. us fans), let alone the general public, then there’s not a good strategy or any strategy in place.

I've worked in marketing for over a decade, and 6+ years in tv marketing specifically.

With all due respect, you couldn't be more wrong lmao

DWAS - Having two powerhouse pop superstars at the top of their game was the marketing strategy, i'm sure EVERYONE on both their teams KNEW it was gonna be huge global hit (and it is)

Disease - I felt like this was Gaga telling us and the world to be prepared for her comeback to the dark pop sound but with heavier beats, don't think this was ever meant to be a huge hit or anything

Abracadabra - Marketing strategy was definitely the debut at the Grammys and also TikTok, with her reposting/commenting on numerous videos about the song/mv. It's still too early to tell but I think this is THE song that she/her team wanted as the signature hit for Mayhem era.

Mayhem - 3 weeks to go, and a lot can happen in those 3 weeks. I assume that she's gonna do the usual talkshow appearances (Jimmy Kimmel, Fallon, Graham Norton, etc.) a few live performances here & there + some social media posts about the album and that's about it because she needs to focus on rehearsing for Coachella

It's exciting to see what she has planned for Coachella this time since it's not a last-minute thing like 2017, plus with her performing tracks from Mayhem, it will DEFINITELY promote the album to non-fans and drive streams/sales/popularity for the album.

However, with that said, just enjoy the ride and don't stress. This era's already off to a PHENOMENAL START :firega:

I find it adorable that some of you still think there's some complex strategy with"huge promo" to come.

We're 6 months and 3 singles in. What we've got is what we'll continue to get.

Whatever her strategy is, it's working and I wish the little managers would just chill the f*ck out and enjoy it.

I know you said "no negativity" and what you said in your OP isn't bad, but we just got the best song/video of her career and we're still finding ways to speculate on how her team functions and whether or not they're doing a good job lmao

...a true reverse warholian expedition methinks :traumatica:

The songs and videos this era are truly her best yet! But I was speculating because it is unusual for her. Like compare Disease and Stupid Love and it doesn’t feel like a lead single at all. Which is fine, maybe they didn’t want to spend too much on Disease before Abracadabra. It was kind of the case with Perfect Illusion/Million Reasons.

Kn the other hand, one of my favorite things about Gaga are her live performances so yes, of course I miss it and want to see these BANGERS performed live.

Keeping the GP on her side with these non Mayhem performances while introducing her new aesthetics organically. It helps with exposure, while not contributing to over expose the project itself. Her SB performance was LOVED by almost everyone.

Mayhem related performances after the album release, heading to headlining Coachella + the Copacabana show.

Tour announcement at some point ? Hopefully longer than the CBT, she can take time to rest between legs, tours these days last a LONG time (look at Coldplay, they've been touring for over 2 years) and she can make it sustainable for her health that way.

We know there's at least one more single from the announcement trailer, wether that's before the album release, the day of release or after, who knows.

I pray for a tiny desk performance, Gaga can transform her songs to fit that kind of show (look at antidote and poison for her more recent output... or any of her acoustic performances) and they're GREAT exposure (Hot wings shows that she's willing to do that kind of promo).

The strategy is to build the brand of Lady Gaga as a respectable and talented performer, specially amongst Industry people: the people sitting at the Grammy audience, the SNL employees who have a lot of high-powered actors amongst them, and the SB committee: she is using the LG7 era as a promotional vehicle not for the pop songs that her fans want, but herself as an artist.

The Hot Ones interview demonstrates this very clearly. All about her as a person, nothing about her pop music. Not even her previous pop music she does not need to be secretive about. Why? Because her ultimate goal is to win an Oscar for best actress, and impressing these people is very important in achieving that goal. That is what she is working towards, not success in the field of music.

I think this fan base needs to get with the times and accept that music consumption has changed. Unfortunately televised performances and music videos aren’t the main way artists can promote their albums. TikTok is the huge part of the strategy since it can reach new audiences whereas classic media requires the general public to go out of their way to watch.

I'm sorry, but can we stop being delusional about things like 'she is promoting Lady Gaga to get respect' and 'people use TikTok now'?

Live performances are still a driving force for sales/streams, as APT live has clearly shown recently. And after Sound of Music, TIHTY, Joanne, ASIB, Bowie tribute, HMH etc, she is well respected and nobody denies her talent like they did during ARTPOP.

She just can't be bothered to make small performances it seems, and prefers to promote via big gigs, knowing that she will still sell out her tour and have decent sized hits. It's different from how she promoted before, and I don't like it, but it's not that deep

but that's not delusion, it's cold stone fact. you sound like one of those old people who resist technology lol

tiktok and online algorithms is what generates hits these days but the problem with most of them is that it only promotes the SONG, not the ARTIST

thankfully team gaga are smart enough to use these little promo spots to keep her name relevant whilst the music smashes

mother, what must i do?
