To answer the question simply, no, it isn't "satanic worship" And no, that sigil is not being represented in the video, and if it was? It wouldnt be an act of satanic worship. Its a music video. However, 'Abracadabra', like previous users have stated, is a reference to pre-Christian beliefs. 'Abracadabra' is a spell or incantation used for many reasons in the early centuries. (I'm pretty sure the first recorded use was around the 2nd century) It was used as a spell for protection. It was used in amulets, talismans, etc. It was commonly used to protect from disease (omg). But overall, some of the lyrical content and conceptual framework Gaga explores in this song focuses on these ancient, pre-Christian, esoteric, mystic beliefs. Hermeticism, Gnosticism, alchemy.. These are all frameworks she is using in this song to convey her message about combatting light and darkness, good and evil, creation and destruction. After all, abracadabra translates to "I create as I speak". They are used in a pop-music context, so its not so obvious unless you research and/or are interested in mysticism. However, what I find interesting about all of this is how the image of Satan was based off of these pre-Christian beliefs, There were gods that were worshipped in this ancient religions whose image would represent a modern day image of Satan. For Christianity to govern control, they had to create fear. To tell people they were worshipping evil "False gods" they could create more order and in turn further that idea of good vs evil. So, yeah, Gaga is most likely inspired by mysticsm. It reminds me of how she used the image of Baphomet in early works, another image that frightens people. Esepcially Christians. Its obviously a more modern reference to the occult than "abracadabra", but it still is kind of in the same realm. Baphomet represents that same friction of balance between two things, an image to represent the desire for order. This song is about Gaga's journey on finding comfort in her darkness, or finding comfort in the discomfort of her darkness. Disease was very much about the battle, Abracadabra, in my opinion, is about the action of coming into your power and speaking on it. Its about taking the action to speak what you desire and create upon that, knowing that within yourself lies lightness and darkness, and knowing that, choosing to create, not destroy. "I will create as I speak" This is ART! Gaga has always been great working with symbology in her work and it shouldnt be a shock to fans that she is using esoteric symbolism in a song about occultism. Sorry.
