There was the inauguration after-party held by far-right publisher Passage Publishing (its online offerings include a periodical titled Man’s World, a $100 set of three Hardy Boys books, and a $295 “fascicle” by Yarvin whose purpose “is to disturb your historical and philosophical sense of where we are”). Grimes, the pop musician and mother to three of Elon Musk’s children, hung around Butterworth’s green room with Curtis Yarvin before her DJ set began on January 19.

Curtis Yarvin is known for founding the anti-egalitarian and anti-democratic philosophical movement known as the Dark Enlightenment. Among other things, it openly promotes dictatorships as superior to democracies and views nations like the US as outdated software systems. He has been described as part of the alt-right by journalists.  He is a personal friend of JD Vance.

One of the most influential terms he first popularized in the political context was the red pill.

Under his Moldbug pseudonym, Yarvin gave a talk about "rebooting" the American government. He used it to advocate the acronym "RAGE", which he defined as "Retire All Government Employees".

He described what he felt were flaws in the accepted "World War II mythology" alluding to the idea that Hitler's invasions were acts of self-defense.

He critiqued the attacks by the Norwegian far-right terrorist Anders Behring Breivik( he killed 77 people) not on the grounds that terrorism is wrong but because the killings wouldn't do anything effective to overthrow Norway's 'communist' government.

He  has alleged that whites have higher IQs than blacks for genetic reasons. He has stated that black people are genetically predisposed to make good slaves.

Yarvin attended a Trump inaugural gala in Washington as "an informal guest of honor" due to his "outsized influence over the Trumpian right.

Grimes attended his wedding last year.

But do enjoy her music still? This seems like a bit too much.

Yeah, I'm putting her in the same category as Kanye at this point. If someone is still trying to hype this woman up I'm looking at them differently.

This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss.

Oh yeah okay this is actually it. As much as I love her music I'm deleting it from my Spotify and playlists right now

Edit: okay that actually hurt because I really like that music but I finally did it. I'll be sad to not listen to any of it again but f.uck her she doesn't deserve a thing

Why Bowie and Lana??

Ye Grimes seems like a rly sh*t person and I've never rly vibed with her work; but I think some ppl get rly over dramatic when it comes to artists and musicians. Like not every artist you love is gonna be a good person or share your values and beliefs. But real music fans don't like artists for who they are as people. They're fans of their music. I hate how celebrity obsession and cancel culture totally get in the way of the enjoyment of art, which has always meant to be subjective.

I mean, I've always been a huge fan of Marilyn Manson; and whether the things about him are true or not, it's not gonna stop me from loving his music. Idgaf who he is in real life. Same with my mum; she's always been a massive Micheal Jackson fan and continues to adore his music and performances regardless of who he was behind the scenes. There's such a thing as separating the art from the artist.

And Lana of all people? Denying yourself the right to listen to that stunning music, just because she might be a sh*tty person in real life? Kinda pathetic imo sorry.

If it makes you feel better, just find a way to listen to their work away from steaming platforms so they don't profit from it.

I remember seeing a random show on TV a few years back where they presented copies of great artworks (Picasso, Van Gogh etc) in front of a young audience, then told the audience the artists problematic back stories and let them decide whether their art deserved to be burned or not. I mean, wtf is with that? Cancel culture gone absolutely berserk. It's a kinda unsettling call back to when the Nazi's burned thousands of books in order to suppress views that they considered to be a threat to the status quo. Not everything is so black and white, and art transcends beyond the human condition.
