27monster27 11,849
I've been thinking about the song meaning for a bit, and I think I made a breakthrough. On one of the lyric videos that have popped up for Abracadabra, I found this comment by @josegray666: "The repeated “Abracadabra” could symbolize a mantra, a way of casting a mental spell to shift focus away from darkness toward hope. The “lady in red” and the dance floor represent the allure of life, passion, and creativity, while the “devil turning around” hints at the speaker’s inner demons and struggles with suicidal thoughts. Ultimately, it’s a battle between giving in to despair or choosing love, life, and passion as a form of survival." With the title and chorus essentially translating to "I create as I speak love" and "I create as I speak death", Lady Gaga is narrating how she cures herself in Disease. If Disease talks about her ability to now cure herself, Abracadabra talks about how she cures herself. She can create the love that gives herself healing, and she can create the death that brings trauma. I suspect that "Feel the beat under your feet. The floors on fire." may be a reference to Chromatica, as that album was about dancing through pain. At the end though, she now can create these thoughts at her own will, just like she mentioned with Disease. Her choice to dance and use music to heal is how she can cure her Disease should it come up. With the video it's harder because there are a lot of hidden meanings that still need to be deciphered, but I think the "red side" and the woman watching are perhaps the healing, and the "white side" is the death. This could make sense considering the white side at one point watches the spell and screams in torment (or possession?). I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts on this, because it definitely is a fascinating video and song to dissect. he/him/his 1
