I just worry that Trump instead of backing down to prove he can win a war just shuts off stuff to Canada as well Canada is a bit unusual among major energy producers because we still import most of what we consume. We may be huge net exporters of energy but most Oil and Natural Gas is extracted in the West (mainly Alberta, and to a lesser degree Saskatchewan and British Columbia where population is lower)... and we have no infrustructure linking it to Ontario and Quebec where the majority of the population actually is and the majority of industry that actually consumes those resources to manufacture goods so we just export it to USA So we export a tone of oil and gas but the majority of the Oil and Gas (and refined products as well) we consume is ironically imported from the same Country we export it to (USA) We cut off Oil and Gas to the US and the US can do the exact same to Canada. Its a literal stalemate. Its like pressing the nuclear button, you cant press it without getting nuked yourself as well Im now mad that Canada got itself into this position. Weve talked for the last 2 decades at how we have very little self reliance because of inter provincial trade barriers (laws varying by province making trade difficult to comply) while also lacking infrastructure to connect East and West especially when it comes to energy and never fixed the problem We literally cant play our strongest cards without getting hit back because we cant use our own resources in the parts of the Country that actually consume them. We literally went from a war hawk moron to a black progressive leader to a nazi fascist to a liberal leader and back to the nazi fascist within the last 20 years alone. When we face a threat its all hands on to fix a problem but as soon as the threat takes a breather we completely forget it was a problem and leave the task unfinished Its not just diversifying trade partners. Canada needs to trade more with itself and be more self reliant. Interprovincial trade is plagued with legal barriers, a Province cant even sell alcohol to another Province without expensive things like seperate production because in Quebec 50% alcohol content is ok but if u try to sell that product in Ontario its illegal cuz you cant go over 40% here We have to sell all our energy, oil and gas at a discount and import it more expensive from USA because the part of the Country that produces it doesnt have infrastructure connection to the part of the Country that actually consumes it These politicians are idiots.
