As Trainor’s career was taking off in 2014, she was told that pop stars have an expiration date. “Once they got pregnant, they were like, ‘You’re done,’ ” the Nantucket, Mass., native recalls. “I was told at 20 by an older gentleman in the industry, ‘Well, she’s a mom, so nobody really cares.’ I was like, ‘Ouch!’ ”

Following the success of 'Title' Trainor’s star was on the rise, and she was motivated to maintain that momentum. But she was disappointed when her sophomore album didn’t perform as well on the charts.

“I thought, ‘Okay, well, the charts are representing my music, so I must be just bad at songwriting now,’ ” Trainor recalls. “I felt like I was a failure because it wasn’t No. 1. It’s sad that all that pressure is on you.”

Trainor’s perspective changed when she became a mom.  Motherhood gave Trainor a creative reset — and so did TikTok. She found a new fan base on the app when she began posting videos with influencer Chris Olsen.

I believe she ( or any other female popstar for that matter ) don’t have it easy in the industry. 
BUT 

She can’t blame her lack of sales solely on that. She kept the same sound for all her albums, and that sound grows boring really quickly

No offense but is she not a living embodiment of the statement being true?

It's obviously not applicable in all cases but there is truth to the fact that people move on from female artists past a certain age or if they disappear from the spotlight for an extended period of time to start a family.

Not only that but she tried to disguise it by trying to revamp her image with Thank You, trying to replicate the "different vibes different eras" that was so big in pop during the 2010s. The same style of music but with different vibes, it was way too confusing.
