Trump restricts federal funding for transition-related procedures for minors

President Donald Trump signed a broad executive order targeting transition-related medical care for minors Tuesday. 

The order, titled “Protecting Children From Chemical and Surgical Mutilation,” intends to restrict access to gender-affirming medical care — including puberty blockers, hormone therapy and surgery — for minors, which it defines as those younger than 19. 

It prohibits federal funding from covering such care for minors, restricts research and education grants to medical schools and hospitals, and directs the secretary of Health and Human Services to issue regulations to end such care for minors.

The order also directs all federal agencies to rescind guidance from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, or WPATH, a nonprofit association dedicated to transgender medical care that issues guidance that is widely used by health care professionals.

“Across the country today, medical professionals are maiming and sterilizing a growing number of impressionable children under the radical and false claim that adults can change a child’s sex through a series of irreversible medical interventions,” the executive order states, using inflammatory language to describe transition-related medical care.

The order states that more children will come to regret receiving such care and that they are “often trapped with lifelong medical complications” and sterilization.

“Accordingly, it is the policy of the United States that it will not fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support the so-called ‘transition’ of a child from one sex to another, and it will rigorously enforce all laws that prohibit or limit these destructive and life-altering procedures,” the order states.

it seems as though some trans people who served in the American army are challenging the trans ban, and its sad because we know their safety is only going to be further compromised when the general public finds out who they are. they start with trans rights, DEI policies; same-sex marriage is next. i thought we put enough kids through hell with don't say gay. they're burning books next.

I hope this is not too far off topic- but I think I am anti gender binary. 

“The gender binary is the idea that there are only two genders, male and female, and that people must fit into one of these categories“

I’d love to see gender be abolished. Just get rid of the binary. 

the more we conform to gender stereotypes, the more we give power to the cis people who don’t even want us to exist 

I wish we didn’t want to pass as cis-appearing 

I wish it was safe to be obviously both feminine and masculine at the same time in public 

If gender wasn’t such a priority to literally everybody, then we could all freely be ourselves and appear and behave however feels natural and comfortable , without feeling like I must kill all the masculine or all the feminine aspects of myself 

I feel like a major solution would be to abolish the expectations that come with being born with a pns or being born with a vgna.

i am pro changing your physical appearance for the sake of your OWN happiness - but it is sad when you must do it in order to feel safe and accepted by society ( and they STILL won’t accept you sadly ) 

regardless, the problem here is trump wants anything EXCEPT cis gender and heterosexuality to be banned and we need to fight against it.

we just need to be queer and loud and BREAK THE BINARY 

we shouldn’t want to pretend to be like them or look like them or behave like them (them being the binary ppl who believe there are only two genders and you have to look like one or the other)

Pfff, the worst part is that there is a reason to not allow minors to transition medically (I’ll explain a bit more in a sec…). But he’s 100% doing it out of pure hate for the community. I think minors should have the right to transition, be called by the pronouns they’re comfortable with, and change their appearance to feel more like themselves. But I am against hormone therapy for minors—it lowers life expectancy and can be really bad for their health. In my opinion, natural physical traits shouldn’t stop anyone from identifying as whatever gender they are.

Here in Mexico, there’s a 90-year-old trans woman activist named Samanta Flores. She talks a lot about being aware of the downsides of hormone therapy. She really pushes for feminization surgeries but suggests avoiding hormones for health reasons (of course, an adult can do whatever they want with their body, but for minors, I think it’s something that needs real discussion).

Again, the issue is that Trump is doing this out of pure discrimination—he clearly doesn’t care about anyone’s health.

Honestly I would have to agree. In many cultures they have/had many terms to adhere to different genders or ways of presenting within a community, anywhere from 2 or 30 more ways to present oneself.  Even biologically theres more options than just two, but sadly most of humanity is not educated enough to be aware of that thus emposing the be male or female mindset.

Shame we have to be brainrotted by complex mathematical/chemistry/physics matters in school instead of educating people in more broad, life relevant things.
