i fear this may be her magnum opus, if not a close second to born this way. incredible production and her vocals are INSANE :abra: such a wonderful homage to all the music + artists she's credited time and time again as her inspirations. this album is a huge win for the people who appreciate the fine tuned details in song creation. i honestly feel bad for the amount of gaga fans that cannot digest anything other than club thumpers...it's actually a bit sad, lmao.

also, can i just say the absolute dramatics over the beast and blade of grass? :toofunny: like, i actually cannot believe how disgusted some of you are over anything that's downtempo. and die with a smile blends perfectly into the whole album. i truly didn't think it would, and was fine with that, but the blade of grass outro transitioning into DWAS works so well! only songs I didn't click with were lovedrug and don't call tonight (that bridge though OH WOW!!)

overall, a huge win for 80's, funk, and the fame fans <3 can't wait to bump it on my way to work. vanish into you is summerboy's sister, btw

This is the entire point-- she is subverting what "dark pop" actually is. It doesn't have to be depressing, emo, heavy, and dreary (which I love), but solemn in its lyrics, theme and still bright, tongue-in-cheek at the same time. At times she sings like a beast, other times like a fairy. I'm completely obsessed, I totally get it.

Just finished listening and I have so many emotions, this is literally the album I've been wanting her to make since TFM:kry: The 80s sounds, Bowie/Prince/MJ influence, Nile Rodgers guitar, Giorgio Moroder vocoder, SO MANY THINGS AHHHHHH.. Without a doubt these are the style of songs she probably wanted to do for the original LG5, I am so ecstatic we finally got it:bradley: I can't even decide what my favorite is rn and usually I know right from the first listen, this is literally the first time this is happening with a Gaga album omgggg how can I even SLEEP

Yasss, lots of bowie's sound that she promised in The Fame:traumatica:

Honestly i was expecting more Abracadabra's or dark pop songs here... but again and again i am reminded by Gaga to expect the unexpected. As a whole, this is such a trip in the 80's or 90's... funky, soulful, inspired by many great artists like MJ and Bowie... but still have this Gaganess in it. I know many will be surprised by this because many are expecting TFM or BTW vibes but i really feel that she's really coming after a much wider demographic with this album. It really is a lot of genres!!! It's truly Mayhem of so many sounds!!

Standouts for me in first listen:

 - perfect celebrity

 - killah

 - how bad do u want me

 - blade of grass

 - shadow of a man

I think i would appreciate more some of the songs if this was a visual album. I really hope there are many music videos out of this era. I

I am very excited for the performances!!!

Am i the only one that gets Michael jackson vibes from Shadow of a man?.tell me if you agree@PartySick :music:

Also killah has a very 70/80 Rnb vibe to it which is a era/genre I've never heard gaga really get into

Garden of Eden is my current favorite. Those harmonies and adlibs on the final chorus is one of my favourites touch in music. Also its kinda pussycat dolls meets nelly furtardo mid 2000s realness, but in a way only gaga can pull off.

How bad do you want me sounds like something off taylors 1989 and I mean this in the best way possible cuz that probably taylors best album but with gagas superior vocals. again the final chorus is beautiful. Love gaga doing simple love songs.

I don't think I've enjoyed a gaga album this much in a while. I don't even care if it smashes.  Im happy she blessed us with this

I feel like Gaga was pretty forthcoming with it traversing several genres. Every genre she mentioned by name is definitely there. She mentioned the beauty of her relationship being a big factor in the creation of the album and some people are shocked she's singing about happy and light things? She said there were two sides to the album, and even warned us by putting DWAS as the ending. It's Little Monsters wanting to believe it'll all be dark and acting like DWAS wouldn't fit. It was LMs acting like she will be singing about death and such only. The Prince influence is there as hinted. The dance influence is there as hinted. Y'all took some of the beats that were teased and just ran with it.

REALITY

Just finished listening to the album for the first time! These are just my initial thoughts; my opinions will change over time as I listen to the album more.

Overall, it's fantastic!! :abra: There are no skips for me here. There are definitely songs that I liked more upon first listen, but even with the ones that didn't immediately stick out, I can already tell that I'll learn to love them even more over time.

There were my immediate standouts (excluding Disease, Abra, and DWAS):
- Garden of Eden
- Perfect Celebrity
- Vanish Into You
- LoveDrug
- How Bad Do U Want Me

- Shadow of a Man
- The Beast

I know I just listed like half the album, but those really hit for me  I enjoyed Killah and Zombieboy too, but I need a few more listens to digest them.

I just wanna say this though. I've seen people complain about the album (on Reddit and Twitter specifically) and say that they felt "tricked" into the sound of the album :ladyhaha: I knew this was gonna happen. For some reason, some people lack comprehension skills. Gaga has iterated and reiterated multiple times that this album won't be sonically cohesive. She said there were many different styles and sounds on the album—but if I have to be completely honest, it actually sounds more cohesive than I thought

It's a dance-pop album that has elements of electronic/techno, industrial, rock, funk, disco, R&B, with 90s/00s throwback. It sounds like a lot (and it is!), but it all works and sounds like a sonically cohesive album imo. I've said this for months now, but if you were walking into this expecting all industrial dark pop songs, you were sorely mistaken. If you simply don't like the sound or genres, that's fine, but you can't be mad that the album isn't one specific thing. The f*cking album is literally called MAYHEM :icant:

EDIT - Oh, and f*ck anyone who doubted DWAS' inclusion :gaycat: It's literally the perfect closer for the album, especially after Blade of Grass. It also matches the rest of the album sonically. Y'all were complaining for nothing :gayhat:

EDIT 2 - Zombieboy and Killah grew on me immediately upon 2nd listen :bradley:
