But yeah, I wasn't prepared to be this amazed and snatched by this album. This woman is really incredible

First off I agree! LOVE it!

Second, that was my reaction to Lovedrug. On repeat for a half an hour, that falsetto chorus is KILLAH omg! So effortlessly perfect in the pop-Gaga sense, I can see so many visuals with this one

Ok, I have listened to the album twice and this is my review/thoughts

Overall I think its a great, might even say near-perfect album. It suffers from the usual stuff that every album cannot avoid: filler tracks. The album can be divided into two acts in my opinion: ACT 1 (Disease, Abracadabra, Garden of Eden, Perfect Celebrity, Vanish Into You, Killah & Zombieboy ), then ACT II (Love Drug, How Bad do you Want Me, Dont Call Tonight, Shadow of a Man, The Beast, Blade of Grass & Die With A Smile). I prefer the first half and think the second half suffers slightly, but not enough to tank the record. 

I'd say mainly Killah and Zombieboy are the two tracks that are hard to digest, but have actual pay off. I can see most fans needing time with them but end up loving them. I cannot say the same for How Bad Do You Want Me. That song should not be on the album. Its a straight Taylor Swift rip off and not in the good way. It has cheesy lyrics, a predictable beat and a certain immatureness around it. Its BY FAR the worst song. Even taking it out of the tracklist could pretty much resolve about half of the downgrade the second half suffers from. 

The other tracks from the second half: Dont Call Tonight and Blade of Grass, are ok pop songs. I personally ended up enjoying Dont Call tonight MUCH more on the second listen, so I figure some of these will be praised once the fans give them time. 

My overall review is quite positive. I Think some fans could be thrown off or maybe confused when they hear it, because it is NOT dark heavy industrial pop, nor is it a genre defying album ala Cowboy Carter, it is only somewhat genre defying in its own context. You'll get the industrial sound, then some regular pop songs, then some David Bowie-esque Funk, and then a bit of Adult contemporary ballads. Its varied enough to not be one note, but not crazy genre mixing that it ends up all over the place. The album is very sonically cohesive, which to me is a good thing, but given Gaga doubled down on how this record is not dressed by just one sound, I would anticipate fans being somewhat disappointed, especially if they were expecting really hardcore genre switches (say, from pop to jazz, then to edm). This is a varied enough-but ultimately pop guided record.  If you are willing yo let go of the idea of a crazy hard beat hitting sound, its a perfect record. 

How does it sound like? Honestly, this album pulls bits and pieces from ALL her catalogue. You'll here The Fame, BTW, ARTPOP, tiny pieces of Joanne in the ballads. Hell, even songs like Dont Call tonight and How Bad Do You Want Me sound like the Ally Maine tracks in the ASIB Soundtrack. It truly is MAYHEM in the idea that, its every character Gaga has played in her career. Thats where the "non-commitment to a sound" quote shines the most. in the self references, more so than in the actual sound.  

Its at its worst, an 8.5/10 record, a 9-10/10 at its best
