An average of 24.6 million viewers watched Donald Trump‘s inauguration as the 47th president of the United States on Monday per Nielsen.

That’s a lower total than what was achieved by both of the two most recent inauguration broadcasts: 27% below the 33.8 million viewers who tuned into Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration in 2021, and 21% below the 31 million who watched Trump’s first inauguration in 2017.

Monday’s total was counted from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET across 15 different networks: ABC, CBS, NBC, Merit Street Media, Telemundo, Univision, CNBC, CNN, CNNe, FOX News Channel, FOX Business Network, MSNBC, Newsmax, NewsNation and PBS.

But they want us to believe it was a mandate and he’s the most popular president in history. Horsesh*t.

Facts like these won't make any difference, and I think it's a miscalculation to focus on ratings or similar metrics as a weapon to attack Trump. It doesn't matter if he's not as popular as he thinks he is. Ultimately, he still has power, and there still is an outright fascist movement brewing on a national level. I think we heavily underestimate his capabilities and mistakenly believe (speaking generally here) that humiliating him will prevent him from causing further harm. That is not the case. We should focus on policy and the situation of the average American worker.

It's like I said, he's less popular now than he's ever been. Biden just left Kamala in a mile deep hole that she did a great job nearly climbing out of but unfortunately came up short in the end.

Not effectively or practically yeah, but it does mean there's an iota of hope for the American public.

Winning the popular vote means a little less when you get fewer votes than you did in the previous election and far fewer people are willing to engage with your presidency.

You're right on your other points though. This means we still haven't slipped too far but there's a lot of work to do.

Yes, but the Democrats got fewer votes too and lost the popular vote for the first time in like what? 20 years?Seems to me like a crisis of trust in the political establishment, not just the Republicans. Ironically, Trump is now shedding that part of the party's identity, leaving no one to fill the anti-establishment void...

Biden was historically unpopular. His internals showed Trump getting like 400+ EVs :rip:

I kinda chalk it up to that 'cause otherwise Dems have done pretty well in recent years without Biden (or his VP) on the ballot.

But yeah, Dems are kinda riding to their victories on the "not as bad as the other guys" wave. Politicians have a lot of work to do and Americans have a lot of waking up to do.

Is there a way to hide these Trump threads from the main page? I come here for entertainment, not the end of the world

I was wondering the same thing- if it was possible to hide all World News threads if we can't mute specific ones. I keep well informed, but I come to this site in particular for Gaga, music & art discussions, and a break from the non-stop barrage of political news. It just makes me feel so hopeless to have no corner of the internet to escape the reminders.

I promise I’ll never complain about jojo siwa threads again if we can just skip making threads about republicans for the next four years 🤞
