I don’t think Harlequin would constitute a full-on studio release from her label’s pov (nor mine if that matters :laughga:) so no - we’ll have to wait until LG8 in 2037 to see if she’s looking for a change :vegas:

BTW I know we love dragging interflop to hell and back but they are one of the very best labels for an artist of her caliber imo. She could switch to Republic or Columbia and they would make sure to get her a huge #1 and a multiplatinum album, initially, but they would also be looking to maximize her commercial performance. That to me, would be a dealbreaker for post-ARTPOP Gaga. She plays the popstar game when she wants to but I don’t think she’d be willing to leave her current creative freedom.

Interscope is partnered with Live Nation so their approach is to make sure their newly-signed talent blows up big and manages to build a die-hard fanbase for life (Gaga, Eminem, Billie, Lana, Olivia…). If you manage to sell tour tickets, they let you call the shots. I think it’s what’s best for Gaga.

Now I would enjoy her to find her own imprint (or basically sign artists to Lil’ Monsters LLC) like Madonna did with Maverick (she scouted Alanis Morisette and a big time 90’s rock band, Police perhaps? - if I’m correct). But ngl our girl is already overstretched due to an overwhelming amount of talents in different mediums so I would also not want her to take more years off from music to run her own label. :haroon:

Oh and not even MJ managed to go fully independent - that’s an absolute no-no for me. Do y’all really think she’d invest her own money to fund BTW-sized eras in 2025 if she were independent? :brat:

Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

I don’t see a good reason why she should leave interscope, she has creative freedom and control over her records, she can work on her music for as long as she feels like it without pressure or deadlines

Huhh I thought she renewed her contract with Joanne. Yes I think she should stay with Interscope and she seems happy there. Billie Eilish has complete freedom to do what she wants and it seems like Gaga too which works for her. She has always been the boss.

Could LG8 by a reimagining and new versions of previous albums LG1-7 and cut tracks all packaged as a greatest hits…….. this would close out the interscope run, and then she can go independent for a bit… maybe going into a long era where she just releases singles and does collabs for a bit whilst she builds her personal life more… children etc..

but it was still released "under exclusive license by Interscope"

Under exclusive license *to* Interscope, meaning that Interscope is licensed to distribute it or whatever, but doesn't own it like her other albums, I think.

I don't think that this indicates that she will go independent though

LilMonster LLC is a *publishing* label under Interscope, so I believe that from now on she's fully owns or at least a big percentage of her masters, licenses of her songs and royalties distribution. from what I got is that she co-owns it with Michael.

So since it's a brand new company and it was created with interscope, then she will extend or already extended her contract.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Depends on the exact meaning of the clause. I've not seen it so I'm just spitballing.

It could mean she can't reuse demos whatsoever. Or it could more simply be a way of preventing her releasing an album of half arsed demos to speed up the end of the contract.

Given the way she has reused demos or reworked demos in the past (like Fashion of his Love coming from Earthquake). I'm inclined to think the clause is to prevent her releasing 10 random demos as an album that counts to the 8 contracted.

Interscope has made some pretty...interesting choices...when it comes to business stuff, but they're very hands-off with Gaga when it comes to her approach to music. I don't see any benefit of her going independent and can unironically think of more problems (particularly with promotional budgets and networking for funding) if she were to go in that direction.

As I understand it, Gaga renewed her contract with Joanne. The horse she was riding on the cover of the single was a gift to her from Interscope as a thank you for all the money she made for them (and this was before she had the massive success of Shallow, ROM and now DWAS) and the other half of the gift was a contract that would last for years to the point where she would never have to worry again about it almost being up. When you're bringing home the bacon for your label, they want to keep you around and I see no reason why Gaga can't.

Interscope is very respectful to its artists creative whims and needs. Lana's been signed to them all these years and she basically just puts out albums with no promo, only puts effort into a music video once in a blue moon and her fans are lucky if she tours in 3 continents and does more than just festival appearances. Billie's also doing her more experimental thing and isn't being pushed to make happier pop music or have a sexual image. And even though Olivia's so young, she's not being overworked like crazy, her first tour was tiny even though she could have easily done more shows and once her single success started dying down, she wasn't forced to put out a new one every week to make up for it. Gaga's been treated so well under them (it's people on her team but not the label themselves that have been an issue) and she continues to keep getting hits and success with singles, albums and tours. What reason is there to go independent?

I know it's the kneejerk reaction from fans to support this but the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Running a label takes major work and if she has to make her own music, act in films and prioritise getting married and having children on top of that, she'll be stressed out to all hell and you can bet her music would take the biggest hit for it. When a label does it all for you, it takes the pressure off. And I know this isn't always the most popular thing to say but labels know what they're doing the majority of the time. Most artists don't thrive under their own labels, I'm just going to say it. Gaga invested so much of her own money into her career in the early days. Now she's made it big, she should let a label fund her for the rest of her days, she deserves it.
