FfFfFfFF 58,072
"Renaissance", the Bulgarian extremist party placed third in the October 2024 parliamentary elections, announced territorial claims: "we want Macedonia and southern Bessarabia for Bulgaria." "We support Trump for Canada and the Panama Canal and we want Macedonia and southern Bessarabia for Bulgaria," the Vazrajdane ("Renaissance") party wrote on its Facebook account on Thursday. Russian propaganda has flourished in Bulgaria in recent times, and Moscow's efforts to undermine the Bulgarian political system and society have intensified drastically. "Renaissance" is the main pro-Russian party in the country. The rise of Renaissance began in 2020, when the party had 1% support and was the first to speak out against the restrictions imposed by the authorities due to the Covid pandemic. The party's clear goal is to strengthen the electoral segment of pro-Russian Bulgarians, who are estimated by sociological agencies to be around 30% of the population. https://adevarul.ro/stiri-externe/extremistii-bulgari-vor-basarabia-de-sud-pe-2413696.html

South-Eastern European nations have had deep historical diferences and most of them distrust their neighbhours (sometimes even closely related ones, that speak the same language like Croatia or Serbia, or have the same religion and cultural Slavic identity like Bulgaria and Serbia). This is becoming more and more apparent as the US shows signs it may go on a isolationalist direction. The borders in the region were drawn later than in Western Europe, under the influence of Ottoman, Russian, Austrian lines of control so they also had less time to settle. Secondly Serbians, Bulgarians, Greeks all had empires so in the historical past they controlled much more territory before the arrival of the Turks, and many such territories overlapped. Thirdly one may note the secession of Kosovo or the Russo-Ukrainian war as precedents that proved active border changes are a viable option when borders are not satisfactory according to country A or B. Ayesha Erotica 1,924
Skopje lies on the border of the Albanian-Bulgarian/Macedonian linguistic sphere. If Bulgaria were to get N. Macedonia, it will not be the end of the story/dispute as Albania will make its claim on the eastern half. I suspect there will be clashes for Skopje as it is the second-largest Bulgarian-speaking city, yet it also has the potential, if more Albanized, to become the second-largest Albanian-speaking city. No side wants to give up Skopje. N. Macedona as a whole seems like a Little Yugoslavia with unresolved ethnic distributions. What is the percentage of the ethnic groups in South Bessarabia in %? I don't think a Bulgaria-North Macedonia war is likely as they are both NATO members, but if it occurs I think it's likely it will lead to a 3-way conflict between Bulgaria, Albania and Serbia (either supporting the main North Macedonian government, which was warm bilateral ties with Belgrade, or supporting a Serbian faction in the Serbian majority areas). According to the last census, Southern Bessarabia was 40% Ukrainian, 21% Bulgarian, 20% Russian, 13% Romanian, 4% Gagauzian. Budjak is made up of a Russian and Lipovan-speaking coastline, a rural Bulgarian interior and an Ukrainian north, with patches of Gagauzes, Albanians and Romanians (That said, southern Bessarabia can be defined in different ways and could be understood to extend into the south of the Republic of Moldova, especially Taraclia district)
