The suspect was detained by residents in Woodland Hills about 20 minutes after the fire started. This could set the stage for an even greater lean to the right by the state in 2026. Candidates for governor may have to address issue around vegetation overgrowth and piped water supply to LA. Take a good, long look at who you vote for in the primaries, Californians. Also, it may be a good idea to demand that your candidates speak up about the insurance company practices we’ve been hearing about during the disaster. You can't underestimate how dehydrated the vegetation is in the area that's one of the biggest factors, its free fuel. The wind obviously fans flames and helps existing fires move through the current area, but it's also the burning debris that the wind spreads that causes the biggest issue. You can't control where it lands and it can start new fires outside of controlled fires. The speed of the response is important as well, but one of the biggest issues they've had these past few days is the winds being too strong to send out helicopters etc that can do aerial water drops. It's only really the last 24 hours where the winds have been calm enough to make it safe to do so regularly. They've also had issues with water pressure and supply because of how many engines, tanks, hoses etc have been deployed across the city region - i saw the Palisades fire alone has 1700 firefighters attached to it. And then there's the human factor. LA City Council cut the Fire Dept. budget last year to fund a budget increase for the police... Framed houses can be built much cheaper and faster than houses made of concrete and brick. That is why these burned-down houses can be rebuilt very quickly, the little ruins hardly need to be demolished and the concrete foundation is probably still usable. Another reason for the rapid spread of the fire could be is that according to the pictures taken of the burned areas, the plots are very small and the buildings are too close to each other, so the fire could easily jump from one building to another. So to skimp on supplies at a massive scale for decades means that we learn a painful lesson when it all goes up like a match. I was watching them the other day and they had a helicopter flying above the fires.
