Rock is less successful on the charts because of the way the fans engage with the musical output compared to pop/rnb fans. Bigger focus on quality media formats over just endlessly streaming. 
And every city you go to you will find a rock music scene, rock music bars etc. 

The band Ghost is only 10 years old, and it's main commercial success came in the last 4 years because one of it's songs went viral on TikTok. It's a major commercial success of a band, that's just announced it's biggest ever global arena tour with more dates & legs confirmed to be coming. 

Sam Fender has 2 albums out and is already selling out stadiums. Headlining Finsbury Park. His 2 nights last year at St James' Park were attended by 100,000.

Rock is absolutely not dead. It's got a better, more present community behind it than almost every other genre. And tbh it's only really the US charts where Rock does poorly & that's only on the singles charts. 

On that note. Rock is not Rock & Roll (also rock is starting to look weird typing it this much). 
Rock & Roll is a specific genre from the 40s/50s that was essentially the first "popular music" of the post-war era. It became so successful because it coincided with the establishment of the Top 40 chart format & advent of the first 45s.  It later evolved into everything we associate with rock & pop as a result of the 60s which is essentially where all modern music originates from. 

It just shows total ignorance of music to say that rock is dead or that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame doesn't represent something broad.

The best-selling rock album of 2024 was Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, which was released in 1977. The album was the highest-charting rock album on Billboard's 2024 year-end chart, landing at number 34. Other rock albums that made the top 200 included: Nirvana's Nevermind, AC/DC's Back in Black, Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory, and Sublime's self-titled 1996 album. 

The Eagles: Established in 1971, this band is still touring in 2025

Iron Maiden: Established in 1975, this band is still touring in 2025

The B52s: Established in 1976, this band is still touring in 2025

Def Leppard: Established in 1977, this band is still touring in 2025

Soft Cell: Established in 1978, this band is still touring in 2025

The Cure: Established in 1978, this band is still touring in 2025

New Order: Established in 1980, this band is still touring in 2025

Red Hot Chili Peppers: Established in 1983, this band is still touring in 2025.  

I could name others...

New bands are still emerging, with so many subgenres to account for. 

Some iconic artists are reuniting for tours and many other successful rock artists continue to tour.

Successful biopics about rock music were made about Queen, Elton John, Elvis.

People are still nostalgic for rock music. 

Physical music sales: In 2021, rock was the third best-selling physical music genre. 

Rock continues to thrive in numerous countries worldwide, including China, Indonesia, Finland, Japan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Australia, and New Zealand.

The Strokes were awarded the 2021 Grammy for Best Rock Album of the Year.

While it may not dominate modern cultural landscapes like it once did, rock music remains significant and has an enduring role in the music industry.

Well, I can't comment on that 'cause the last new artist I've stanned is Billie and I'd argue a few of her hits are mixes of rock and aspects of pop

rock may not be chart dominant but charts aren't the sole dictator on that

you really don't have to look far or hard for rock music fans/communities

Tbf the current gen of pop stars are fusing genres together far more often than ever before. 

I mean Rina Sawayama got asked by Metalica to do a cover of Enter Sandman for the Black Album's 50th anniversary the other year.

Rock has actually been more successful commercially than hip-hop has in the last 25 years. Plus there’s more rock influenced artists popping up than there are hip-hop ones.

You can also actually argue actual hip-hop hasn’t been successful since the 90s, most hip-hop artists to be commercially successful need to incorporate elements of Pop, Dance and more to be success nowadays. Look at Nicki Minaj; her most commercially successful songs are more Pop songs, same with Jay Z. Whom hasn’t had a single successful single since he worked with Kanye almost 14 years ago

Just cuz Rock isn't the flavour of the month and in the popular scope does NOT mean it's dead. The charts and universal radio popularity should never be the soul judge on value. 

Rock is a totally unique culture of its own and actually prefers to be detached and free from all the faff of chart success and commercial music politics. Rock fans are usually real music lovers and detest the modern way the GP consume popular music (20 second snippets on TikTok and catchy little songs specifically designed for replay value for numbers). They don't consider that high value music, and hence the rock numbers are lower than other genres.

But ye the rock community is immense and diverse and will always thrive even if they're not in the public eye.
