Energy crisis in Transnistria, as a result of Gazprom ceasing supply

As a result of Ukraine finally ceasing the transit of Russian gas through its territory, Moldova's breakway region currently experiences an energy crisis. The industry in TRA temporarily shutdown and the region experiences electricity blackouts.

While R. Moldova will be suplied gas from Romania, leaked documents show Russian-occupied Transnistria refused EU gas. 

If the situation becomes dire enough this could be the beginning of the end of Transnistria!

They stopped the transit after a fixed term deal expired and obviously they aren't interested in negotiating with Russians right now. In theory it'll improve national security, damage the Russian economy and force European diversification from Russian gas supplies

Ukraine is no longer contractually obligated to allow the transit of gas supllies on its territory because the contract with Gazprom expired on January 1st 2025 and was not renewed.

Something potentially surprising or counter-intuitive is that Ukraine let Russian glas flow through its territory and Russia had to paid Ukraine (the country is at war with) a sum of money in exchange!

But not anymore..

⚪️ The Iasi - Ungheni pipeline is already at full capacity and only has capacity to supply the right bank of the Dniester river.
⚪️ Moldovagaz (technically a subsidiary of Gazprom however by threatening nationalization it is possible for Chisinau to coerce them to act) has made an offer to Tiraspol to procure Romanian (or other, but not Russian) gas at market prices, for which Tiraspol would have to pay in full.
⚪️ Tiraspol has refused this offer and is choosing to have rolling energy blackouts while its' energy reserves last.
Tiraspol did indeed refuse, but it's not clear that it can even afford market prices gas. Because gas not purchased in advance is extremely expensive.
⚪️ Tiraspol has gas in the pipelines for 16 more days and coal to produce some electricity for 46 more days.
⚪️ Schools and kindergartens will not open on January 13th because there is no heating.
⚪️ Industrial production in Transnistria has already stopped completely (including the Steel plant) and most businesses are shutting down.
⚪️ Complete blackout will occur in ~46 days.

They can ask Romania/EU for gas in this very moment but actively choose not to because they think Daddy Putin will come and save them. There is also the expectation that Romania and Moldova might demand the removal of Russian troops from Transnistria (for good reason).

They would rather allow their citizens freeze than ask for help, but they must know this is not a long-term prospect.

Pretty sad and weird that you're taking something that could potentally harm hundreds of people in such a light and "fun" way, with emoji and all. War is very real, it is not a meme. And Transnistria won't go anywhere.

Well you posted it, and they saw it. If you have an issue with Transnistria, then blame Mikhail Gorbachev and Boris Yeltsin for their crappy handling of the dissolution of the USSR.

Slovakia's leader is one of the bought & paid for Putin stooges. 

He went MIA after a trip to Russia a few weeks ago. No one knew where he was meanwhile Slovakia was trying to sort out energy issues. 

Turned up when he posted a social media video criticizing Ukriane for doing what they said they would a year ago. And he was in a very very very swanky & exclusive luxury resort in (i think) Vietnam. 

Seems like the Putin plan is to let his satellites in the EU suffer to weaken support for Ukraine.
