Neil Young to headline Glastonbury 2025, cites ‘error’ for earlier stance

Glastonbury hasn’t yet announced its 2025 lineup. That didn’t stop reported headliner, Neil Young, from declaring that he has decided to remove himself from the iconic UK festival’s lineup.

He has announced that he will not be performing with his band The Chrome Hearts as planned at Glastonbury 2025.

In a post on his website, Young said he believes the UK festival, which is partnered with the BBC, is “now under corporate control”.

"We were told that BBC was now a partner in Glastonbury and wanted us to do a lot of things in a way we were not interested in," said Young. "It seems Glastonbury is now under corporate control and is not the way I remember it being."

Young previously headlined Glastonbury in 2009 and, in his post, described it as “one of my all time favourite outdoor gigs”.

Although Young has not specified his concerns about the role of the BBC, it seems likely to centre on the broadcaster’s requirements for coverage on TV, radio and iPlayer.

Update:
On Friday, Young updated fans he had changed his mind and would be participating after all, blaming his previous decision on “an error in the information received.”

“Due to an error in the information received, I had decided to not play the Glastonbury festival, which I always have loved,” he wrote on his website. “Happily, the festival is now back on our itinerary and we look forward to playing! Hope to see you there!”

Glastonbury organizer Emily Eavis also weighed in, writing on Instagram: “What a start to the year! Neil Young is an artist who’s very close to our hearts at Glastonbury. He does things his own way and that’s why we love him. We can’t wait to welcome him back here to headline the Pyramid in June.”

Young is the first headliner confirmed for 2025’s edition. Other names such as The 1975, Olivia Rodrigo, Harry Styles, Sam Fender and more have all been rumoured to appear.

The festival can't handle the health and safety risks posed by the crowds Rita would attract

He wasn't headlining. 

Besides, the headliners won't be confirmed until March and the lineup fully released until early June.

They just quoted the S*n. The Sun are the one spreading the misinformation (unless it was intended for him to headline one of the other stages but we will never know), no line up information will be officially out until March.

Its weird because his last appearance and the prior one he cancelled due to injury were both during the BBC partnership years. 

So I'm chalking it up to "old man yells at cloud"

Aye and he's reversed his decision just as she publicly announced he was headlining.

Funny that. 

Must be headlining the other stage though, he's way too old to get the Pyramid Stage now. 

*Edit* but minus the S*n saying it, there was no official confirmation of him being a headliner until *after* he reversed his boycott.
