I feel the creators are strategizing to make Wicked part 2 the big one that’s going be darker, edgier - and gain that critical acclaim and record box office numbers.

Wicked part 1 was amazing and I think part 2 is going to be even a bigger pop culture moment. :excited2:

Idk bc the marketing for this one tells me they wanted it to be a landmark :laughga:

I definitely think they wanted part 1 to be big but I strongly believe part 2 is going to be even better and bigger. Kind of like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 and 2.

Honestly, well deserved. I finally watched it last week and it was amazing. The performances were top notch and the attention to detail throughout the entire film was insane. My one critique would be that it felt a little too long.

I thought this movie had made over a billion dollars

Maybe you're thinking of Barbie? That was the recent movie that was a colossal smash in that regard.

Just purely on my mind, with no numbers , lol i still find this hard tò believe that such a colossal movie like mamma mia could be dethroned by Wicked. These numbers surely can't be compared.

Maybe im completely wrong but the mamma mia musical was a global smash with immense endless tours. The movie was a big Moment and well had that cast. Im sure that Is something that still Is profittable.

While Wicked Isnt even being Number 1 right now. And overall Is more niche kinda audience even if we're talking mainstream.

On the other hand the campaign that cynthia and ariana was massive. They have probably worked more on promotion than actual hours in the film production

I’m not doubting wicked can easily come out on top

But are these numbers adjusted for inflation ?

No :vegas:

Mamma Mia would have about $910 million (give or take a few tens of thousands) if you used 2024 money.

That's why total gross is a garbage way of gauging success. Anything successful released today will make more money than something released a decade or more ago. Average movie ticket costs have gone up by almost 50% across the US alone so of course it made more money.

Attendance (the number of tickets sold) is a better gauge of success if we're comparing them.

I don't really care about either movie I just passionately hate crappy statistics :icant:

It amazes me Les Mis did so well because I was under the impression that it was hated lol

If its like the billboard touring grossing charts then no, but wikipedia probably has a helpful table showing original gross & inflation adjusted gross figures

Les mis is the first and only film I've ever seen where there was applause at the end in the theatre! If you like the musical you'll love it, it's really faithful, but if you had the musical you'll hate the movie.

wicked as franchise is bigger and the movie is an undeniable hit

mamma mia was only big cuz that abba song is so catchy and everyone loves it - the movie itself is pretty abysmal

wickeds a masterpiece

even the critics agree and so does the GP
