To me, Britney is not basic at all, shes one of the most talented artists that gave us the most amazing art through her body movement and performances that will live forever.

Charli XCX singing about parting doesnt make her basic, the subject matter is not what makes you basic, its how you express yourself through art is what makes you an artist. You can sing about death and still be extremely basic. There is a basic view of death, and a deep view of death.

I always hated Carlu Rae Jepsen, but her last 2 albums are amazing, and shes clearly not basic anymore.

All of this is my subjective personal opinion, no need to take it personal

Bruno's arguably one of the more unique mainstream artists out there. 

I'm not really a fan 'cause I don't care for most of the topics he writes about but calling him basic and "not a true artist" is a pretty wild statement  

He's like the Prince of our generation. Dude's far from basic tbh.

We'll not slander the good sis Spears on this cult site thank you. She's the quintessential pop star. She's "basic" 'cause she set the standard for what the pop girlies are supposed to be about  

Also, I don't listen to Charli 'cause that genre offends my ears but her little brats would probably fight you on that assertion. Her music goes beyond lyrics, it's about the actual sonic experience which isn't unlike a lot of my favorite songs written/composed by less loud artists.

The subject matter of an artist's lyrics can't determine how basic they are. It's gotta be about their entire image.
