If this does well and if the film does well it just goes to show our “people just don’t like musicals” excuse for JFAD isn’t valid anymore considering this is like a MUSICAL musical :rip:

That's not a voice crack, it's a yodel. It's intentional and an homage to Kristin Chenoweth's portrayal of Galinda.

Not really sis... most big budget musicals have bombed recently. Wicked has a LOT going for it:

- One of the most beloved broadway musicals of all time
- Based on one of the most beloved musical films of all time (The Wizard Of Oz)
- Has one of the biggest pop stars in the world as a lead
- Built-in fanbases from broadway/pop music
- It's gay as hell

JFAD could've succeeded if Todd Philips wasn't afraid of leaning into the camp and theatricality of the concept, but instead he made a dud of a film that sits plainly in between multiple genres that doesn't do or say anything.

The thing with JFAD as a musical and Wicked is Wicked is a long-standing, hugely successful Broadway musical that's already had a major fanbase that loves musicals. I think that helps A LOT with it having such major success. JFAD tried to sell a musical to the wrong audience AND it was a jukebox musical. Not something made up of entirely original songs.

I listened to Kristin's live and official recording before commenting and she does not do what Ariana does lol

I said it's an homage, not an exact copy.

Yes they are different people, and in the video in OP there's a split second of crunch at the best part of the song (for me)

:messga: Mika was so amazing, I wish his work had longevity. I think he had a bigger impact than people realize. Alos queer icon, I believe a lot of his fall was because of homophobia. (He's bi, I think).

That’s exactly the point. It’s an actual musical with fans who appreciate musicals. Joker was not that and most of its fans are hardcore comic book bros who were going to hate the musical aspect of the film regardless. Completely different situation. Wicked is one of the most popular musicals of all time and has a lot going for it; it’s expected to do well.
