AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas’ education board voted Friday to allow Bible-infused teachings in elementary schools, joining other Republican-led states that pushed this year to give religion a larger presence in public classrooms.

The curriculum adopted by the Texas State Board of Education, which is controlled by elected Republicans, is optional for schools to adopt, but they will receive additional funding if they do so. The materials could appear in classroom as early as next school year.

Republican Gov. Greg Abbott has voiced support for the lesson plans, which were provided by the state’s education agency that oversees the more than 5 million students in Texas public schools.

Parents and teachers who opposed the curriculum said the lessons will alienate students of other faith backgrounds.

Supporters argued the Bible is a core feature of American history and that teaching it will enrich students’ learning.

Well since they're doing it in the name of historical education, I'm sure they will include all the heinous acts that Western civilization committed in the name of God, as well as an account of the changes that have been made to the Bible to push discriminatory and genocidal political agendas :vegas:

What’s next, will they rename Texas to Gilead?

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

You can't do that! Dang! Everyone is NOT a Christian. Will it be ok for other religions as well??

See that's the thing, they want everyone to be christians. And most likely want everyone who isn't christian to die. They are nazis for a reason.

Tbh if those people actually read the Bible and taught all the passages about Jesus telling us to love everyone, beating up people who were selling stuff at the temple, teaching us to not judge others because we're not perfect, that riches don't actually do anything for you spiritually... If they teach all that, it could be a good thing! But of course they're not thinking of all this...

(I've seen lots of really cool medieval texts at uni, it really sucks to learn how positive religion can be and then see how the people who are the loudest about it now are those who care the least about it...)
