it probably took so long cus they didn't plan or film a video until after the song came out

i bet it's warm reception and nice little success caused them to go ahead with a video

Ever since the late 2000s music video budgets have decreased so drastically. There is a reason why Gaga had so many product placements in her early videos… labels simply can’t get their money back from singles anymore to fund a high quality music video. And now imagine the situation for an independent artist like Kesha is now. It’s even harder for her to execute so probs to her for actually pulling it off. Of course production will take longer. I really can’t blame her. She seems so dedicated for her new independent era

I'm not sure singles were ever profitable aside from the itunes/mp3 days right? I blame labels for failing to platform music videos. Why were they entirely reliant on MTV and YouTube to push music videos? Monetization was there and so were opportunities, and they just could not do anything with it. Imagine if they had started a platform that got exclusive access to MVs for 24 hours on a Thursday. The song is not available anywhere else for that period. You'd condition millions of people to tune into the platform. And now you have somewhere to advertise as well as show off the art of music in a way that benefits you more financially than YouTube ever would. On top of and aside from that, MV are an investment into the artist. Labels just don't want to invest into artists, they want to immediately profit. Which is why we see such quick rises and falls for new acts. Labels have done all of this to themselves because they went for instant gratification for a decade, and now the art and the industry are in the gutter.
