Russian President Vladimir Putin signed into effect a revised nuclear doctrine declaring that a conventional attack on Russia by any nation that is supported by a nuclear power will be considered a joint attack on his country.

Does it mean that if Ukraine used the missiles provided by the US by Biden on Russia, then Russia would consider that as a joint attack from Ukraine AND from the US?

So much for just another bluff from Putin, they literally put the thing in writing and offical policy which is entirely different from vague statements.

I was telling all of you this in another thread but as always, nobody would listen. I remember this site telling me that Putin was bluffing in the prior to the 2022 invasion as well.

That is exactly what it means. These missiles cant be fired without the expertise and assistance of the United States

In theory. Just like cutting all those communications and internet cables in the Baltic sea should have theoretically triggered nato article 5. In practice it's just posturing, they reserve the ability to attack but they have nothing to gain from widening the conflict so they won't attack the UK or US.

This isn't the first time they did this in the current conflict. Russia has previously updated their nuclear doctrine to strike first if they're being invaded. And Russia is currently being "invaded" in 5 of the oblasts that Putin and Russian law consider as part of Russia, including internationally recognized Russian territory in Kursk.

This is just meant to sow panic to people like the person above me who have been shouting from day 1 that sending Ukraine a couple of helmets will result in worldwide nuclear annihilation.

This is a desperate move from Russia. They didn’t send nukes when occupied territory faced strikes and they didn’t send nukes when their own borders were invaded and occupied. 
 

Putin is aggressive, but he’s not an irrational actor. Russia is not going to wipe itself out because Ukraine strikes supply chains and military bases in a war it’s started. 

The US response will be interesting.
