They underestimated the size of the Ukranian army and how well organized it was. If there was any time to go all in and supply them like crazy, it was then. But instead we dithered and gave them aid drip by drip which allowed Ukraine to hold the line but never make a pushback. It also meant Russia had time to build up a massive army and organize the war industry. If you wanna pinpoint an event that lost Ukraine the war, it would be the failed 2023 counter offensive that broke it's teeth on the first line of Russian defenses. After that the war turned into one of attrition which is a death sentence for Ukraines long term chances of ever reclaiming it's territory. The Russia advantages in manpower and military production have only increased since then and they will keep getting bigger with time. The point that Putin won't stop with part of Ukraine and the neutrality of the rump state that remains is one that I can understand but we are talking about a series of disastrous outcomes and I think we need to do everything we can to ensure the survival of at least part of Ukraine while avoiding the outbreak of a war between great powers. I'm not gonna address the war in Gaza but you make a good point that Biden was kinda caught in an impossible situation but it still bothers me because of how morally reprehensible financial and military support for Israel is. I've never really followed the war that closely, the last time I checked in properly it was still an actual stalemate. So it's been a losing battle for over a year now and nothing's changed policy wise. Foolishness And yeah, it's not just Biden either with Gaza. There was a point where he tried to stop certain weapons from going to Israel but congress overrode him. Not sure what happened with the sanctions that were being threatened, I had to stop watching so closely. Anyway, it's the whole American government, ambassadors and diplomats included, that all refuse to be harsh on Israel like they should be. We can be an ally to Israel without being ambivalent about or directly supportive of the genocide of Gazans, settlement of the West Bank, and general f*ckery they're pulling in other countries Whimsical bitch

This is a very valid objection, and Ukraine would need security perspectives in that peace agreement that can be realistically maintained. The Donbass was historically Ukrainian farmland until it was more heavily populated, industrialized and urbanized by Russians, so Putin considers it Russian property. From the Donbass, there is then a land bridge to Crimea, where ethnic Russians are the majority. So far, he occupies lands that are not foreign to Russia. The moment of truth will come when Putin's troops reach the Donetsk Oblast border with the rest of Ukraine. Then, real real Ukrainian land starts, lands where Ukrainians are a strong majority. If they then advance, they will probably target all of Ukraine or all of Ukraine east of the Dnieper. If they then stop, one can assume that enough will be enough. The Global South will not tolerate indefinite Russian annexation. The manpower is limited. At some point, Russia will/might realize that its power is about to become overstretched and leave it at what it is. I have doubts that Russia would want to occupy anything past the oblasts they formally annexed but I could be wrong obviously. For Putin, the ideal scenario would be formally recognizing what he already keeps and turning the rest of Ukraine into a neutral state with a pro Russian government Here is your throat back, thanks for the loan

For Putin, the ideal scenario would be formally recognizing what he already keeps and turning the rest of Ukraine into a neutral state with a pro Russian government well, they formally annexed more than they actually control. Basically, they control 96% of Luhansk Oblask, about 70%-80% of Donezk Oblast, half of Saporishja and half of Kherson, yet formally they annexed all, 100% of them. The capture of entire Donezk and Luhansk seems within the realm of possibiltiy, while Sap. and Kher. are a bigger challenge and would prolong the war. I think the big question is whether he will take Kherson City and Saporishja City or not. Kherson City is west of the Dnieper and the river acts as a barrier and de facto border and is difficult to cross, while Saprishja City is east of it and easier to capture, though it is meanwhile heavily fortified. It seems unrealistic that he will take Kherson City. It is the oblast capital, without which the oblast would actually have to be renamed on the Russian side. I think, perhaps Russia could merge half of Saporishja and half of Kherson into one new oblast, so what they have right now and make Melitopol the new oblast capital, and not continue to take the remaining cities and lands. That could be part of the peace treaty. Your boyfriend comes over with a bit of gun oil Says he wants to step on new soil

He was like our GagaDaily-Professor for Eastern Europe I still have contact to him via mail and tried to convince him to make a little comeback to GGD as long as there is GGD. He became a history teacher at school after summer. Your boyfriend comes over with a bit of gun oil Says he wants to step on new soil

Even if I'm personally trying to tap out of politics for a while we're certainly living in interesting enough times that a whole teacher would be welcome here. darkgaga 7,100
Is now suddenly Biden trying to start WW3. I never understood why all those countries and the NATO are helping Ukraine so much tbh. They should have made a deal with Russia from the start, and in that deal establish the safekeeping of other territories

DopeEnigma 1,774
From a strategic standpoint, it makes sense as Putin’s effort is faltering massively, worse than it ever has, they are losing 1.5k troops a day. Russia needs to be dealt with one way or another tbh. What’s pretty insane to me is the number of people who would concede anything to Russia. Utter madness, they’d continue on if that happens and it’s about time they were dealt with. It’s easy to speculate but none of us know the strategic timing of any decision in war but I’m all for anything defending the Ukrainian people. For those saying it’s making things more expensive, it’s a lot cheaper to defend them than all out war with NATO and Russia, we need to stand tall against the aggressor. There are also strict guidelines from Biden to only use them on strategic targets to defend themselves and prevent further attacks on their territory. At least someone is brave enough to do something than the cowardly orange moron. Russia, more so Putin, likes to threaten and spin their position all the time, they’re scared and their economy is in tatters. They started the war and they deserve to be defeated.
