Why Disease is flopping

I feel like Gaga’s team is playing the long game and that this song will have a lot of vitality in the future and will be used in TikTok edits or maybe that’s just wishful thinking :lolly:

salty like sodium

The lyrics are vague enough for it to not not be a love song though. It's very similar to the cure thematically: I can cure your disease (with my love) imo.

Another point is the song was clearly meant for Halloween time, right? I understand the great idea of dropping it on/near Halloween to enjoy, but the issue is that as quickly as the holiday comes around, it leaves us too.

I think as time goes on each year the song will gain popularity leading up to Halloween.

A drop mid October to let the song/visual spread BEFORE Halloween so more creators had a chance to use the song/looks for longer probably would have helped.

Now that we're in November the spook/dark looks just aren't as exciting, the holiday is over.

I believe that's a strong reason why it feels the lead single isn't gaining any traction and "flopping."

The melody that you choose can rescue you ♥

Because Gaga and her team are not doing any promo. I love Disease but this era feels very uneventful so far.

I think we need to face the fact that we're all too depressed for this kind of music. I hope since LG7 is released in February (Valentine's month) it'll be an album of feel-good soft pop like we're all truly craving.

Who is we?

Because the consensus from the discussions have always been happy and relieved about her finally doing bangers and dark pop again after she is previewing some snippets back in the Summer. The hype that's saying the real Gaga is back and all that. Go and read the LG7 megathread if you missed out or need to refresh your mind.

As always, y'all just rejecting it now cos it's flopped with the first single.

I think you guys need to realise Gaga is quite a polarising music figure when it comes to pop. We love her weirder, sounding music but i repeat, this is the type of sound that pretty much alienated her during 2009-2014.

That said "Disease" is a banger and I'd like more, please. :huntyga:

edit: as long as the album and tour sells then I think all will be 👍

You could say she's a notorious being :ohwell:

Arcanum

FAD made her look "not cool" because of the bombing.

Harlequin got the hype for "new Gaga music".

Disease lacked natural viral moments.

Disease's MV is way too complicated.

DWAS is getting the most attention.

She does what she should do:

Taking a step back.

If she didn't release sth after her Venice announcement she would have been dragged to the pits of hell and back.

So at this point I believe it was a fan service.

Was it supposed to be like that? No.

But it is what it is, I guess.

I Wantth your Love...I Wantth your Love.

Disease might gain a reputation of a Halloween banger over the years and gain momentum each year. I think that might actually have been her team's plan for releasing it in late October.

Genuinely think it’s time for everyone to accept something now:

1. If Gaga and her team felt the need to try grab a chart hit, they would’ve done everything possible to try force that to happen (physicals, performances, merch, multiple versions, try-hard viral attempts etc). They didn’t, and therefore we need to accept that inorganic chart success isn’t a priority (because ultimately, the song has been received incredibly successfully by those who matter).

2. Gaga is in her late 30’s, has nothing left to prove, and rather than trying to force herself back into the cultural landscape required to get a chart topper, she’s releasing music the fans want and she wants to make. Harlequin, Disease, DWAS are all examples of creations born out of the desire to create, not to pander (thank god).

3. If, IF, any of her music from here on becomes successful on the charts it’ll be due to an organic, it-is-what-it-is approach exactly what we saw with DWAS. Everyone was praising the fact that song was such an organic hit on the charts without any crazy pushes. This will happen sometimes, sometimes not. Again - it is what it is.

4. Stop trying to equate the random chart success of a song to your enjoyment of it. Gaga clearly doesn’t, so why should you?

I love Gaga and everything she does and I always will but disease just isn’t a strong come back song so I’m not surprised. I’ve only listened to it a handful of times hoping it would grow on me

Song isn't doing well and now we're back at this bs of a narrative okay:icant: ig one of the problems are indeed the fans

I love the narrative here. 99% of her fanbase LOVED the song a few days ago. Now we see the ranks and "well, we knew it was not that great"

:ladyhaha:

DWAS actually had a pretty extensive digital promotion campaign that was targeted to casual listeners, not fans, which highlights the big difference between Bruno's team and Gaga's team (whereas Gaga's team tends to focus on fan interaction and engagement, Bruno's team heavily emphasized making sure casual fans and the GP are also tuning in).

The promotional banners on publication websites and social media, autoplay push on spotify and apple music, music video snippets used for social media visibility to chase that needed TikTok virality (and having it available the same day as the song's release), live performances in Vegas, and Bruno doing a few tv spots for East Asian and SE Asian fans (his biggest market) are just a few examples.

The issue is that Disease has none of that.

This exactly. It May seem that dwas had no primo but It had promo. And they made sure the flame was very much alive those First 2 weeks.

Gaga has certainly had some radio deal Just they played her Song. But again these bilboards...i don't quite get It. Its such an old fashion way of doing promo and plus the billboard was cryptic so its Just a cute thing for Little Monsters. Which Is cool but not cool enough not to be a waste of Money. Theyre promo Isnt innovative nor smart enough.

Horror Is very much a thing, and She released on halloween. None of the Two were used tò create hype effectively. Maybe its not even the Most appropriate Song even It has all the elements.

Anyways the message Just didnt got through with the promo
