It's one of the things that supports and extends one's career (Beyonce still has a great song at #1 in 2024), especially when Gaga is by no means an independent artist. There are too many examples how consecutive flop commercial performances will make one big star fall and fade away. That's what we're worrying. As for Gaga herself, she always enjoy attention, popularity and success. As for your second point, we don't even know if she considers Disease just a "fan-service song". She might expect GP to love it as much as they did with DWAS. By no means do I say that Gaga, or us, don’t want success across the general public. Of course we do. The point I’m trying to make is that, at this stage, it doesn’t seem to be a priority to them to try force it to be, as she has built a deeply layered career in numerous fields. Artists who have ‘faded away’ due to a lack of chart success are often one trick ponies, that haven’t nearly possessed the multifaceted skillset Gaga has across multiple artistic modalities. She will always be a successful part of the arts industry regardless. I truly believe that. Also, the GP DO love the song from what we’ve seen. It just hasn’t picked up the organic traction that has resulted in it going viral, and that’s completely fine. She will be fine! bpmMonkey 4,000
Because her (supposed) strongest supporters keep on shitting on her every single move, acting like she abandoned them personally, hyper focusing on charts as if they’re the only way to validate their enjoyment in life. or something else, who knows. something something promo something something sabrina roan xcx. JustTea 4,127
Her vocals are too loud and high in the chorus (feels like she wants to prove her vocal abilities yet again ), it doesn't appeal to GP like Alejandro and her other smash singles that have toned down chill vocals...

Bad Romance as well had kinda high vocals in the chorus. Honestly, Disease imo is not catchy as other smash hit she has done before. In the btw era i kept saying bloody mary would have been huge in the radio because when you listen to it there is some sort of magnetic hook which pleases your mind and Bloody mary has nothing like the usual radio Song sound. That's what most of the best gaga singles had in the past and Disease lacks it, imo. Let's hope for a better 2nd single choice
Battle 4 Ur Life 6,337
seriously tho, putting my jokes and chart belittling aside… since this topic is always gonna be addressed I genuinely ask: Are we in Gaga’s Billboard Daily? Because it’s obviously relevant when a female artist reaches the top and matter of fact still continues to do so almost 2 decades later, people are quick to rely on the “solo hit” narrative and this is just the primary excuse for her haters to dismiss her place in the industry, her relevance and even her TALENT. and it’s not just dumb but it’s also disgusting when you take a look at so much stuff that’s charting. So yeah we’re allowed to discuss and disagree but are we really stanning this long just in hopes of cracking that #1 again? I honestly couldn’t be more hyped for her next album and that’s based on a song that’s “flopping”. Smash With a Smile
chathonnete 419
I agree, it's a BOP but it's not catchy, it never comes to my mind, I never have intrusive thoughts singing the song, and I struggled to memorize it. Whereas the Neon Lights demo is stuck in my head all day long We need a lighter catchier 2nd single ❤️ but for now let's enjoy Disease being a niche

There is maybe a shirt that was used by her in ARTPOP era and dark persona that maybe references her Monster/BTW era, but to think everything in that video is just that is wrong in my opinion. You can watch video as a non fan and just see clearly what it’s about, which is inner battle. That’s it. You don’t just have inner battles with yourself. You have inner battles with parts of you that are directly linked to specific times in your life
Economy 47,002
Agree. Its a great song but not very commercial. I remember before release i was arguing with a user saying she wont debut at #1 but they were convinced it was a strong possibility.

I think people are putting so much emphasis on the lack of promo because they're frankly bored with the LG7 era so far, and they're using it as an excuse to express their frustrations. If she did all the promo she could and Disease was still flopping, I don't think people would be complaining as much. well, we dont know how disease would have done with promo because it didnt get any🙃 DWAS is literally a gp friendly song by 2 of the biggest singers in the world. AND it got at least 3 performances. Disease is not GP friendly so it is not the same. I really dont care about the song flopping, I just wish she promoted it for the fans, not even for it to go #1. A nice performance here and there would have been nice, just like with dwas and harlequin I See You

monsterpt 16
Because every song on the top10 is always either: - a ballad / slow paced Striped down song - a song with more simple instrumentals or vocals. The typical chill song - if there is screams in the song, it has to be man screaming 😂 Disease is a heavy song that appeals to the fans, as we love the theatrical way that Gaga sings. There is no science
Darcklighter22 2,292
I love the song. It's doing better then 143 and entire album. So it's not doing.....that bad... She paved the way sonically with TFM and BTW (even tho a lot of that era at the time was the label backing her with budget MV's etc...) so after ARTPOP was delayed and released after the big EDM trend/hype 2012 had critics where fast to claim it sounded dated and with the whole management fiasco. After that she's stayed true to being in her own lane, whether you like what she puts out or not for her pop releases. Disease is holding on and hasn't fell completely out so give it time. Longevity is better then a quick burn.
Nessun Dorma 2,368
It feels like little monsters are Gaga’s worst critics. To say the obvious, Disease is the result of Gaga’s artistic creation. She put her time, her heart and a lot of work into it. Calling it a flop is disrespectful and rude. It’s also funny that this fanbase begged for dark and experimental music and now that Gaga gave us exactly what has been asked, people are non stop moaning about numbers and charts, instead of enjoying the musical and visual experience she provided us. Let’s not pretend we didn’t know from the start that an alternative sound wouldn’t click with the GP the same way a ballad as DWAS would. It doesn’t mean the music is bad, it just doesn’t have the same comercial appeal. Instead of complaining, we should be grateful that she’s still doing music for us. Celebrating her versatility and brilliance. Charts do not always reflect talent or quality. 5 1
