MOT 2,643
This isn't complicated imo. They both have giant fanbases, so a duet by the two of them starts with a huge advantage over a solo by either of them. There's also the small matter of the song being a really good song, plus I think it just sounds better as a duet than it would if either of them performed solo. It not only sounds better, but it's more interesting too, as in we've heard plenty of Bruno before and plenty of Gaga before, but we've never heard them together before.

They both sing like 70% of the song, Bruno a bit more because of backing vocals and harmonies...

Starmie25 13,070
Are some of y'all even fans? You don't always need to downplay her existence tbh.

warhol killer 8,543
Gaga does great with ballads (Always Remember Us This Way, Shallow) Bruno also does great with ballads (When I Was Your Man, Talking To The Moon). Both of these great artists together in one ballad? It's a hit because of them together. I feel like the song would still be a hit if it was a solo song (either Bruno or Gaga) but I don't think it would be as big as it is right now. Mr S 8,146
It's not black and white. If it was Bruno solo song, it would still smash. Though it probably doesn't have as big a debut. If it was a solo Gaga song, it would flop. Could you replace Gaga with anyone and expect similar results? No. Only Beyonce, Pink, Adele, and a few others who can pull off the vocal. The song works better as a duet, and the fact it's two big names brings a certain level of attention. It's lovely vocal performance at a time where no other song is sung as well. Also, Gaga's dance and look in the video went viral.
Ivy 11,589
No but the type of song is better between 2 people, like Shallow, because it's a love story
Decodekid 26,648
Yes and no. I believe joining both artists made the end result more interesting for the public. It wouldn’t be as shocking to hear of a new solo Bruno Mars ballad, as well as a new Lady Gaga solo ballad. Long Live Gretchen

Taylor and Ed Sheeran for example if you look at those names you'd expect anything they do to be a success yet End Game barely moved. Nailed it. It’s not about whether it’s a Gaga or Bruno song, at the end of the day, it’s a hit because the chemistry of two artists created something that wouldn’t exist without each of their trademarks in the best way Been a cuff touple, a puff bupple, a tough couple of years. 2

Foxyy 289
Obviously. Gaga does add a lot to it quality wise.
EGOT2027 10,800
i mean he definitely helps, but every comment i’ve seen from some GP fan of it is like “their two voices together are perfect!!!” like every positive comment mentions them both
