gumzy3000 6,921
I was relistening to The Fame last night and Just Dance played. The beats and lyrics still packed a punch, even 16 years later. Disease feels so bland and boring in comparison, like it was some unfinished demo from The Fame Monster. I am not comparing because I'm opposed to change, but I like to see creative risks and growth from my favorite artists. Whether that is in the lyrics, the music, or the imagery, I want them to improve and keep things interesting. Disease did not showcase that. I'm sure she has the talent to create magic, like she has done before, but she really seems to have struggled with Disease. It just isn't entertaining sonically or visually. trolly troll troll
littlepotter 74,291
I mean the article existing is ridiculous, but it doesn't seem all that mean towards her, the last part comes off more encouraging than tearing her down. And honestly I do agree that if Gaga sat in a studio and really tried to dive into new sounds and more complex music it would be great. But the thing is - i think she's more or less doing that with LG7. Disease and all the snippets sound fantastic and exciting. "The successes of “Smile” and “Rain on Me” show that listeners still see Gaga as a pop star on a similar tier to Mars or Grande; that’s what makes those collabs so exciting. They’re just waiting for her to move the needle on her own again. There’s no guarantee that it’ll work, but it’s happened before — look at Beyoncé, who broke a more-than-decade-long drought of solo No. 1s with her house-pop song “Break My Soul” in 2022. If anyone can innovate in the same way, it’s Gaga." Edited November 7 by littlepotter chaeri pls
Decodekid 26,643
Can we talk about how ever since the late 2010s people are doing remixes of already released songs in order for them to chart as singles? Have the media also considered how a lot of today’s hits are covers, interpolations, etc? I have to laugh Long Live Gretchen 5
StarstruckIllusion 49,487
I’m just disgusted that stan twitter hate talking by points are being legitimized by professional organizations yet artists like Nicki Minaj dont get questioned for their zillion collabs. Idc how normalized rap collabs are. They shouldn’t be treating collabs like it’s new or a dig yet here they go…

monstertoronto 8,742
I expect “solo hit” dragging from ATRL but not from New York magazines culture site. This feels like it was written by a OGH stan 3
GerMonsterNotta 656
Pfft clickbait article She’s not in it for big hits right this moment, she’s in the game for the art and the fans……. if she REALLY wanted an easygoing, safe hit she could sneeze one out in two seconds (ie look how The Cure manifested back during Joanne era….) Bruno Mars, GP ballad hits, other amazing colabs… these exist to pay the bills and really showcase legends together ….. It’s amazing that she gets to do BOTH now, music AND bling….. that’s real versatility and talent. Edited November 7 by GerMonsterNotta

Leoooo 2,249
Seeing as their talking about the American chart exclusively here, I'd say after trump was just elected by the majority of that country of voters, we shouldn't see a majority vote from them in any area as a sign of TASTE. It's a hit where I am in the UK and even that means little to me. She gave me an injection of pure Gaga I've been craving and I will never let other opinions effect how much I love that Edited November 8 by Leoooo

Go listen to Judas, Just Dance, John Wayne, or 911, some of Gaga's previous singles, and then Disease right after. The former songs have melodies and hooks that's addictive and distinctly Gaga. Disease has no personality in comparison. Truth hurts sisters. trolly troll troll

That and the last two albums have both had bigger second singles, with significantly more promo than that of the lead.
