I think if you want to go to space because you love Star Wars/Trek/Mass Effect, etc. that’s one thing.

If you’re actually into the space race/colonization BS propagated by Musk and Bezos, that is a HUGE red flag.

Yeah girl and where do you think the sources to make that happen are coming out of? Space tourism will be the end of us cause of people like you making the big money believe there is demand for it.

Are...are you serious?

For scientific exploration obviously. The pursuit of knowledge and the largest frontier that our species will ever step into!

I'm always taken aback when people AREN'T amazed by space exploration and the absolute potential our species has to not only learn so much but to become a space faring species that will outlive our planet.

Imagine by the time we're old people will be visiting Mars regularly! Maybe we'll have ventured out even further!

I wish I could visit Mars or really space in general :bradley: the infatuation I have with that huge universe beyond our home world is one of the defining parts of my own personality :bradley:

For me I have no problem with scientists going to space and for the government to fund that.

But one of my biggest pet peeves (goes beyond that tbh, fills me with real rage :messga:) is billionaires wasting their hoarded wealth on their dumbass rocket projects for the sake of ego and vanity and star wars fantasy. To exploit people here on Earth and then toss those resources into the black hole of space while there are people literally starving to death, people dying for want of basic medical care, our beautiful majestic planet being destroyed in pursuit of that wealth... fvck all the way off.

If every billionaire with a pet space project used that money HERE ON EARTH they could solve SO MANY GODDAMN PROBLEMS but no. Gotta play astronaut.

So I get her completely lmao :deadbanana: If she was dating an actual astronaut or NASA scientist I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue haha

Billionaires are literally irrelevant to me, idk about their c*ck measuring contests :icant:

It's a huge pet peeve of mine 'cause I grew up right next to the Space Coast, I've had dinner with astronauts, rockets practically launched from my backyard, and I've always had a fascination with space exploration as a result.

So many people (now mostly MAGA types) like to discredit space exploration as "we coulda used that money for something important!!!" and I find that to be incredibly small minded.

There's so many places you can cut spending at the government and personal levels without crippling THE greatest effort humanity has ever made to explore and understand our universe.

I think we're on the same page here. Like I said, I have no problem with genuine scientific study and exploration of space. I also haven't really encountered anyone who talks badly about government spending on space (not a huge issue here in Canada :icant:) so that angle never really occurred to me.

But this thread is about the Olivia quote where she said dudes wanting to go to space is a red flag and ego driven, so I think we have to assume she's talking about regular people/space tourism rather than the fact that she doesn't want to date astronauts haha. I also do think there is a disconnect because for people like you and me saying, "man I'd love to go to space one day" is like a dream/theoretical thing, whereas rich people can actually do it, so pretty different circumstances.
