Gaga's metal era ?

We all know that Gaga is a super versatile vocalist, it's undeniable. :vegas:

But I remember that some fans were upset bc her voice changed a little bit those last years. I agree that in 2019, her vocal control sounded less good than it used to but some LM were afraid that she lost her voice bc it started to sound more nasal than it used to. Her voice has always been nasal, it's a part of her artistic style, since "The Fame" to now.

To some ppl her vocalist prime was in 2015.

To me she doesn't have a prime cause she keeps working on her voice, all of her evolutions are interesting and a part of her artistry and personality.

And now, I'm realising that the Chromatica Ball was a big showcasing of her vocals abilities. I found tha CBT super metal coded, it was dark and the pyrotechnic aspect of the show was so Rammstein coded but even her screams and vocal control were metal coded (yep I used a little bit too much the word coded in one sentence ).

And now that she dropped "Disease" I can hear all those metal elements in her voice and in the instrumental.

Gaga always loved to use growls and vocal fry technic in her songs but "Disease" is truly exploring an interesting aspect of her voice. That's why many metalheads praise this song, compare it to NiN style and call it industrial.

Well, she dated a metalhead for several years, and I think was romantically involved with at least 1 rock musician. She was exposed to the genre, she literally made a duet with the most popular Metal band in history, so it is a genre that is familiar for her.

I don't think it's her ~preferred~ music style, but it is a familiar genre for her. Her love for electronica also informs this connection.

A lot of heavy acts like Nine Inch Nails, Evanescence, Rob Zombie, etc, borrow heavily from electronica. So there is a grey area where both genres kind of mix, and her work is probably influenced by that spot.

I think she finds a comfortable place, musically, in that line where electronica and heavy rock are kind of blurred. All through a Pop lens, of course.

But she always had it. Her "Paparazzi" performance in Malta had those vibes already:

Yep even the Metallica lead singer said that she knew some of them least popular song but even some of her collaborators were actual metalheads like Jonas Åkerlund who produced Paparazzi, Telephone and John Wayne MVs :holdmyhand:

As a matter of fact, I do remember watching that Paparazzi performance in Malta, and discussing, on this very site's now defunct chatbox, that she should do a "Nine Inch Nails-like song, with strings, like her Paparazzi performance". And, a decade later, we're almost there.

Disease was just missing the strings, but my wish was almost fulfilled. I just feel like her pop sensitivity + an industrial base + strings, would make for a quite unique, dramatic mix, that would work perfect for her, musically wise.

What people call nasal voice most times is just the nasal resonance, a technique to reach high notes without damaging the vocal cords. I agree sometimes her voice sounds a little nasal, mostly when she’s singing jazz, but I wouldn’t say it’s always nasal. And it definitely doesn’t bother me.

Now, I’d live for a Metal era! I just LOVE the vocal distortions she uses, seriously, it gives me goosebumps! The way she sang The Joker was so unexpected and unique, she’s truly exploring her singing and that makes me excited for what’s coming next!

Gosh, all the amazing things this woman can do with her voice! She never lets me down!

Many rock icons and metal artists respect her even as a pop artist because she has proven her vocal talent and very adaptable to various forms of music.  How many pop artists can say they played with Metallica on stage or collaborated with bands like the Rolling Stones?

Or got compliments from Alice Cooper, KISS, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue's Tommy Lee...
